I utilize EMDR to help you process painful memories that can sometimes cause you to feel stuck, while also focusing on mindfulness and coping strategies.
It takes tremendous courage to initiate the first step towards seeking counseling. I understand how vulnerable it can feel and I want to offer you a place free from judgment where you are invited to share your story. My approach is client-centered and relational, as I believe the connection between the client and therapist is integral to the healing process. Whether you are struggling with difficult life transitions or facing the effects of trauma, I am here to help you navigate and work through those challenges.

For over 14 years, I’ve guided women in rebuilding confidence and reconnecting with themselves through trauma-informed work. Through both individual and group work, I’ve helped clients process trauma, deepen self-awareness, and move toward greater emotional clarity and resilience. Today, my work has expanded to support healers, providers, and innovative leaders who spend their lives caring for others. Holding space for people every day can be deeply meaningful—but it can also be heavy. I offer a place where those who support others can tend to their own mental health, process what they carry, and reconnect with themselves.

You may be functioning on the outside but feel internally overwhelmed, tense, or emotionally shut down. Your mind doesn’t slow down, small things feel heavy, and avoiding tasks or conversations has become easier than dealing with them. You might be carrying anxiety, unresolved experiences, or a sense that something isn’t right, but you can’t quite name it. Therapy can help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and learn how to respond differently, rather than just pushing through.

I utilized Cognitive Behavior Therapy and EMDR in my practice most often.
You may be successful, responsible, and dependable, yet still struggle with anxiety, depression, self-criticism, or feeling like you're never "good enough." Many of my clients are tired of seeking validation from others, overthinking relationships, and carrying emotional burdens alone. My goal is to provide a supportive space where you can better understand yourself, break unhealthy patterns, build confidence, and create a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. Whether it's self-esteem, confidence, depression or anxiety, we can work through that.

I often use EMDR in conjunction with CBT and DBT in my practice.
I believe healing happens in the presence of compassion, authenticity, and genuine human connection. Therapy doesn’t have to feel cold or clinical—it can be a space where you feel understood, supported, and even able to laugh at times. I strive to create an environment where you can show up exactly as you are, knowing you’ll be met with empathy, curiosity, and respect. I believe that no one is “broken.”Many of us are simply carrying experiences that are too heavy to hold alone. I tailor therapy to you—your goals, your values, and your lived experience. I want to help you feel grounded, empowered and connected to yourself and others.

I utilize EMDR trauma therapy, and am certified in Prepare/Enrich pre-marital and newlywed counseling.
We all face challenges in life, but we do not have to face them alone. It is important to be able to communicate our feelings and needs in a safe environment. And sometimes, we need a guide to help us navigate the difficult inner territory that stands between us and our best selves. I seek to create a safe space where you can heal and grow, and to help you work through the struggles, losses and wounds that keep you from thriving.

I also have an office onsite to help clients using EMDR and then allow them time to process in the herd.
I'm known for a direct, intuitive and loving approach. Like the horses, I tell it like it is and I hold space for you to find contentment and growth. First session is information gathering, goal setting and education on what can provide you with some immediate relief from symptoms. We support that foundation each time we meet and go deeper emotionally to understand the "hows and whys" of what got you stuck. I may provide readings or other activities to do in between sessions so that therapy becomes a new habit for you. Horses help us by supporting our authenticity as we engage the new things we have learned.

Including: talk therapy, exploration of your family of origin, mindfulness practices, and EMDR.
Some people ask does therapy work? Where do you begin? What's the first step? I'm glad that you asked. It was my own, very positive counseling experience that moved me. It changed me. I decided that I wanted to be a counselor. I loved the process. I loved the connection. After earning my graduate degree in counseling from Vanderbilt University in 2005, I worked at Centerstone in the Partial Hospitalization program. I saw first-hand that counseling can untangle the mind and inspire a new path. It was this experience as a therapist, that led me to open my own private practice in 2012. And that is where we will begin.

I am a Level 2 Internal Family Systems therapist, have completed the Emotionally Focused Therapy externship, Level 2 EMDR and the Advanced Counseling Certificate in Trauma-Focused Narrative Therapy.
Too often we live life in the fog of good health and favorable circumstances. But then, inevitably, something happens. Something difficult and hard to understand that pushes to the forefront the need for wisdom. Is there hope? On whom can I depend? What am I living for? What matters? Will I live? How will I live? Author and poet Wendell Berry said: "It may be that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings."

On most days, do you feel like you're just going through the motions? Maybe you’ve reached a point where you feel emotionally numb, disconnected from yourself and those closest to you. You want more, but if you’re honest, you aren’t fully sure what more is… you just know that THIS isn’t it. You desire deeper connection, but at the same time you’re afraid of it. You might be wondering: what will happen if I allow them to see the real me? Will they judge me? Reject me? Accept me? Though these are some of your deepest fears, you’d never dare say them out loud. If this sounds like you, I see you, and I’m glad you’re here.

I offer EMDR to help process painful experiences and shift the patterns that have kept you stuck.
We all have parts of ourselves we keep hidden from others: fears, insecurities, grief, anger, unmet needs, or even strengths we learned to downplay. Often, we hide these parts of ourselves to avoid rejection, maintain control, or adapt to the expectations around us. But in doing so, we may never feel fully seen or truly known by others. Our protective patterns can shape the way we show up in relationships and block the closeness, safety, and connection we deeply desire. I help women and men better understand their patterns in relationships and develop healthier, more secure connections with themselves and others.

I was raised in the diverse melting pot of New York City as a first-generation Chinese American, born to parents who emigrated from Hong Kong. After college, I moved to Nashville, where I had the wonderful privilege of traveling the world as a musician. These experiences afforded me the unique opportunity to hear thousands of people’s stories, from depression, suicide, grief, and addiction to hope found amidst it all. Through these stories, as well as my own, I came to realize the powerful gift of therapy and the difference that occurs when we come to understand our intrinsic worth and capacity to be seen, heard, known, and loved.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
