Autism Therapists in Dickson, TN
I work with children, teens, and adults who are navigating a wide range of experiences, including ADHD, Autism, anxiety, postpartum depression, and the lingering impact of childhood trauma.
I often used CBT, DBT and ACT paired with a strengths-based approach. Through the first few sessions, we will explore your current and past stressors that brought you to the therapeutic space. Through CBT and ACT, we can work towards understanding how your thoughts affect your emotions and ultimately life experiences.

First Responder? You spend the majority of your time at work "ON," ready for the next call or incident with little to no time to decompress. You witness more traumatic events in a week (maybe even a day) than most people see in a lifetime. Continuous response to traumatic events over time has a profound effect on the autonomic nervous system so much so you can find yourself feeling exhausted emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually. You may have difficulty unwinding or getting sleep without the use of social media, alcohol, drugs, sex, porn, video games, gambling, shopping, food to numb the emotions or sensations in the body.

I am especially passionate about working with adults, teens, and couples who are neurodivergent, navigating grief, or who may be trying therapy for the first time.
I believe you deserve the opportunity to meet your most authentic and confident self and to find joy in the journey of doing so. Whether that means healing from trauma, finding where you belong, or learning how to get out of your own way— we can work together to make space in your life for what matters, and that's you. I also acknowledge that each of us exists within larger systems (some of which can be inherently unjust) and that building such a life often requires you to find belongingness and support both from within and from without. I strive to make therapy a healing space but also approachable, safe, and even silly sometimes!

You may have been told you’re “too sensitive,” “too emotional,” or “too much.” Many of my clients are highly perceptive and exhausted from masking or pushing through environments that don’t fit their nervous system. This is where I specialize.

Maybe you’ve been through something that changed you — a loss, a betrayal, a childhood that never felt safe — and no matter how hard you try, it’s hard to move forward. As an EMDR practitioner and one of only three certified TIST therapists in Tennessee, I specialize in helping people untangle the effects of trauma so they can begin to feel more whole, grounded, and connected to who they truly are — even if they’ve never had the chance to feel that way before. My approach is warm, collaborative, and rooted in both science and compassion. Trauma isn’t just about what happened — it’s about what’s still happening inside you.

I recently had advanced training in neurodivergence/ adult autism.
Many of my clients come to therapy after years of trying to understand themselves and make positive changes yet still feel stuck. They may have been in therapy, read books, listened to podcasts, and developed insight into patterns. Yet they continue to struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, compulsive behaviors, and a harsh inner critic. I especially enjoy working with high achieving women struggling with perfectionism, people pleasing, and self-doubt. As well as men facing compulsive behaviors, shame, and relationship challenges. Many appear successful on the outside while privately struggling internally.

Autism Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.
How does ABA work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.
How does treatment for autism work?
Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.
How long does therapy for autism take?
Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
