For myself and many others, 2024 was a particularly difficult year. The ‘road’ back can be frustrating and even painful, yet the rewards can be positive and life-changing.
I am happy to announce I am once again accepting new clients for 2025. I hold an MA in Educational Psychology with Mental Health Counseling, and am licensed as an LPC, MHSP. I am also an ACS for those taking a path toward LPC, MHSP. There are many different therapies; however, I believe CBT, DBT, person-centered, and compassion-focused therapies are particularly helpful, especially for those struggling with grief, trauma, behavioral, and long-unaddressed issues.

I have provided family counseling, individual therapy and dealt with attachment issues, grief, anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues.
"We think we listen but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know." Carl Rogers - Everyone at one time or another deals with sometimes more than they can handle and needs someone to really listen to them. I want to offer a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can be heard. My goal is to really understand and to help you through what you are facing. To help you reach your fullest potential and to increase your self-awareness. I want to create an environment where you can really discover who you are.

I enjoy working with both children and adults coping with anxiety, depression, and trauma backgrounds.
In session, I offer a supportive and judgment-free space where we can untangle what’s going on underneath the surface. My approach blends warmth and curiosity (humanistic) with practical tools (like CBT and solution-focused techniques) to help you build self-awareness, develop coping strategies, and reconnect with who you really are.

I work with individuals, couples, and families from a range of experiences, but find that most are dealing with some form of anxiety, depression, or shame-based symptoms.
I am trained in E.M.D.R. and Internal Family Systems, both of which can be used to treat common symptoms, as well as those with more complex or traumatic histories. I have a certificate in psychedelic therapies and integration through Vital's year long program, and have completed my level II training through the IFS Institute.

Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPCMHSP, NCC, RYT-200
Cookeville, TN 38501
I specialize in grief and trauma support, but also work with clients with issues related to anxiety, depression, and major life transitions.
As a counselor and a fellow human, I have found that deepening our awareness of who we are and the struggles we face, within a supportive, safe relationship can help us navigate life’s obstacles in ways that we did not feel were possible on our own. In time, we learn how to nurture and come home to ourselves. Counseling can be an empowering gift to the self. My therapeutic orientation is trauma, grief, and somatic-informed. I offer creative, mindful, body-centered, and nature-inspired interventions within sessions as ways of tuning into ourselves, understanding our patterns, and cultivating a life we intentionally want to lead.

Sometimes life is harder rather than easier and we need help navigating anxious waters or traveling depressing paths alone.
I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach, I lean heavily on Person Centered therapy. You can expect a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental space to talk about things that are causing you trouble. Additionally, there are times for Solution Focused Therapy, Strengths Based work, and elements of Existentialism (who am I, where I'm going, with whom).

You fear mistakes, judgement, and abandonment – even with those that you are closest to.
Are you curious to learn about and understand these patterns that continue to drive you? Would you like to be an active participant in your life rather than a bystander wondering, “what just happened” or “who was that person”?

I work with people who are coping with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, and trauma.
Therapy is about developing a better understanding of yourself, the patterns of your behavior, feelings, and motivations. Sometimes, persistent negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves originate from family relationships, feelings or events. Identifying and working through this can help to find more peace and satisfaction for our lives. I want you to feel comfortable coming to therapy just as you are. In our work together, I will listen, support and give you honest feedback in an emotionally safe space. Being able to speak openly and honestly is the foundation of therapy.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
