I work with children (ages 4-12), adolescents, families, and adults. My goal is to offer a safe space to those who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, suicidality, low self-esteem, family conflict, or attachment issues. While I like to draw from multiple approaches, including: attachment work, play therapy, mindfulness practices,
art therapy
, CBT, and family therapy, I ultimately tailor my approach to the needs of the person. Coming to therapy takes a significant step of bravery and I strive to create an environment that promotes acceptance and growth.

Family. This word may bring up feelings of warmth, or it may bring up feelings of anxiety, suffering, or helplessness. You want to reclaim the feelings of safety, security, contentment, peace, and love that once accompanied your hopes or thoughts of what your family could be. Or maybe your goal is to start off on the right foot, with your recent or upcoming marriage, or to ensure that your child is off to an emotionally healthy start in their younger years. Whichever the case, healthy families require focus, intentional work, and can sometimes use outside assistance from a caring professional.

Relationships build the context of our lives. We learn who we are from those around us. This exchange has the power to influence our thoughts and beliefs about ourselves. While relationships have the beautiful ability to build us up, encourage us, and support us, they also have the reverse effect. Have you ever been in a relationship that tore you down, made you question your worth, damaged your self-esteem, or left you wondering why you weren't enough? Have these unhealthy or toxic relationships hindered your ability to seek out and sustain a healthy one? This story doesn't have to be yours forever and you're not alone.

I encourage you to reach out for a free, 20 min consultation to discuss whether
art therapy
, and myself as your therapist, is right for you.
You find yourself in a reoccurring pattern that you don't know how to break- You do SO much for others, understanding the importance of caring for yourself too, yet you find that it's difficult to trust them with the "too-much-ness"/ "intense emotion" that you've been accused of possessing. You're left to carry it on your own, not wanting to burden others with your struggles. You wish you could shut off that nagging, critical voice in your head & all the self-doubt that comes with it. Maybe, at times, you feel as if the tug-of-war of thoughts & emotions is too messy & overwhelming to touch. You think, "Maybe 'they' were right."...

Sometimes emotions are confusing, which is why I also like to use creative approaches such as
Art Therapy
for clients who may express themselves in colors, music, drawings, books, and writings, rather than just words.
If you have ever been asked, "Do you even have emotions?" or told, "You are not processing the way you probably should", it can be overwhelming and confusing. I may be of help if you process life a little different than the average person. I work primarily with teenagers, college students, and young adults. I specialize in helping those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, family and relationship issues, and life transitions. I am passionate about meeting clients where they are working collaboratively towards their goals through a calm and genuine approach.

I also love to use what inspires you being
art
, music, writing, or anything else that can bring laughter and healing.
The biggest reason many don't seek counseling is the fear of reliving the past. Forward facing trauma therapy proves you don't always have to go back to move forward. There is a different way. There is a better way. We start with the symptoms of the present. Then look at how trauma affects the brain and changes how we, think, feel, and behave here in the present. Learning how to fix and reset the brain while decreasing symptoms is our goal at Sessions of Serenity. Done at your pace, in a way that helps restore safety, creates calm and empowers the client. Your past does not have to continue robbing you of your future.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
