I have experience working with teens, adults, and couples in sex addiction, OCD , pre-marital/marital counseling, trauma, anxiety, trauma, depression, ADHD, low self-esteem, anger issues, and spiritual direction.
In the words of Virginia Satir, we humans tend to choose the certainty of misery over the misery of uncertainty. As we wrestle with our fears, we often adopt patterns of controlling, avoiding, and numbing instead of accepting and confronting our suffering as God-given catalysts of growth and even purpose. As we sink deeper and continue to cling to what is familiar and comforting in the short run, we form harmful relational patterns or cycles of addictive impulsivity over time. Know that you aren’t meant to bear this burden alone. Counseling is for those who are brave enough to embrace their vulnerable state and learn from it.

So whether you’re struggling with some form of OCD (e.
Therapy for MEN and COUPLES. Many of us have struggled with troubling, unwanted thoughts, compulsive behaviors, broken vows, traumatic childhoods, or some enslaving addiction. Our lives are pockmarked by pain, and wounded by those we love (and we have hurt them in turn). However, this pain does not have to have the final word. We can live a life we love, one that is consistent with our deepest values. A life of peace, tenderness, freedom, courage, and love.

I specialize in anxiety, OCD , family relationships, loneliness, trauma, depression, relational issues, spirituality/faith, life transitions, and identity.
The couples and individuals I work with come to therapy feeling isolated, undervalued, and unheard. If you are tired of not feeling good enough, ashamed, or angry, my hope is to help you rediscover what love means, heal your connection within yourself and each other, and create a new chapter of your story. I practice with couples and individuals from a client-focused perspective of unconditional acceptance- no matter what you bring to therapy, it has a place. I have hope that we can discover the tools together to process, heal, and journey forward finding the version of yourself that you want to be.

When you have anxiety, it can feel like your world is closing in on you. Your mind may never stop racing or you feel so worried and panicked that you just want to escape for a while. You have trouble sleeping and eating and you can't enjoy life. You may have reached out for help, but it seems like no one can really understand what it's like to constantly feel on edge and afraid... like your world is going to end.

I provide counseling and consultative services. With the help of my colleague, Mark Shively, we also provide training using biofeedback technology. As a counselor, my role is to listen, discern strengths and vulnerabilities, and invite growth/advancement from those placing trust in my care. As a consultant, I strive to provide fair/impartial answers (in the manner of a scientist) to posed questions. Cognitive-behavioral training can address many thought patterns, behaviors and physiological states (such as stress).

Although I am a sole practitioner, I refer to my counseling practice as “our practice.” I do this because the time you spend with me belongs to you. We will work together to help you achieve success through the goals that we will set at the beginning of our time together. I want to join my clients on their life journey and help them better understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. My training as a therapist is empirically based and I am also a believer in Jesus Christ and my faith influences my work with clients.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
