Therapy is a place of self-discovery where unique strengths can be uncovered and where self-compassion can be learned to support you during a difficult season. I offer a solid and steady presence in the midst of a chaotic time- a place for the lonely, afraid, overwhelmed and misunderstood to be heard. My approach to therapy is rooted in a systems and relational perspective, which means looking at life history and context to evaluate the impact current and past relationships have on functioning. I also use mindfulness skills and Brainspotting to aid in coping and increase functioning.

I implement Somatic Trauma and Mindfulness Techniques, Narrative Therapy, EFT, and more from an attachment theory lens to best address your unique needs.
Life's challenges can lead us to a place where recognizing the person in the mirror becomes foreign. Wounds of the past may feel like hurdles that keep us from living the life we’ve wanted. The fights with your partner, the fear of the future, or desiring a sense of direction and meaningful connection can leave us feeling frozen, overwhelmed, and distanced from where we’d like to be. Your unique experience matters - which is why I work to foster empathy, openness, authenticity, safety, and caring challenges within therapy - to meet you where you are and journey beside you as you seek to find yourself and/or your relationship again.

I'm a specialist in cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness , addressing anxiety/stress, depression, chronic pain, trauma, and insomnia.
I partner with individuals who are dealing with issues related to mood or emotions, sleep, chronic pain, trauma, or stress. Understanding that: 1. our minds and bodies are inextricably intertwined (shout out to our incredible Nervous System!), and, 2. there is often an overlap between mood, sleep, trauma, chronic pain, or stress... when we work on one area, it also has benefits in other areas! We leverage the power of these interconnections to help you figure out and move in the direction of what's really important to you in your life.

From that place of acceptance, I use a holistic lens and mindfulness -based, experiential interventions to invite the brain and body to rewire old narratives.
You may find yourself here because of a complicated relationship, a newfound feeling of stress, lifelong suffering, or a desire to improve an aspect of your life; whatever brings you here, I think you are brave for starting this search. I believe that we were all made with value and purpose that may become cloudy as life’s difficulties and pain leave their mark. I think it is a courageous act to refuse to let this be the end of the story. I see counseling as an opportunity to regain agency over the direction of our lives, and I’d be honored to join you in that place of exploration and transformation.

I strive to connect to each of my clients by creating a foundation of trust and curiosity, and utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and mindfulness skills, and group therapy.
Beginning counseling can feel daunting and overwhelming. While it can feel like stepping into uncharted waters, you often seek support when you are already feeling weak, tired, and eager for change. It is important to find a space where you can come just as you are and share, question, grieve - and even celebrate - whatever you may be facing. I have experience working with sex addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, couples work, grief and loss, pre-marital counseling, and spiritual direction. I feel passionate about working with those who feel stuck- whether in self-discovery or in unhealthy behaviors.

You are worthy and you are enough. Those seven words can feel like an unreachable mindset, I know. Trauma, abuse, neglect, grief, and the weight of caring for others more than yourself can make that phrase feel hollow. Anxiety, depression, flashbacks, nightmares, and isolation are truly exhausting. If you are reading this, I want you to know you are not alone and you’ve already taken the only step you have to on your own: you’ve done the hard work of reaching out. I have special interests working with the LGBTQ+ community, women's issues, self-esteem, and mindfulness -based stress reduction.
Life is complex. It can be difficult to gain clarity as to what we want... what we need... where we want to go. It can feel like there are barriers and obstacles keeping us from living a healthy, happy, productive life. Sometimes those barriers are wounds from the past, doubts, fears, relationships... you name it. The human experience is unique, which is why I approach counseling with openness, authenticity, acceptance, and radical presence to join those seeking to expand awareness and make meaningful change in a supportive, non-judgmental space.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
