Change is really hard. Even welcomed change can bring adjustments, anxiety, and
grief
that can set us adrift and stifle forward movement. Maybe you feel anxious, depressed, or are grieving, but not always sure why you feel that way. Healing, growth, and awareness can happen in the context of healthy relationships; our relationship with self, others, and God. As a clinician, I want to work with you to cultivate a healthy relationship in order to facilitate movement on your unique path toward wholeness and health.

I work with individuals, groups, and families of all ages and backgrounds and have specialized experience helping clients with issues of anxiety,
grief
, trauma, spirituality, self-harm, and gender identity. When appropriate, I offer dreamwork, sandtray therapy, and psychotherapeutic Reiki interventions. My approach is collaborative and respectful, primarily drawing from an integration of humanistic, cognitive, and narrative frameworks.

I also work with adults with aging parents to anticipate
loss
and how to deal with end-of-life issues.
I am a Baby Boomer. I realize I have probably lived three-quarters of my life, during which I have experienced most of the situations one can experience throughout one's life. I still have a positive outlook on the time I have left, and I want all of my generation to feel that their presence on this earth has made a difference. I have counseled families who promised to "never put Mom in a nursing home". I have counseled those who never thought they would end up there. Retirees, divorcees, widows/widowers, empty nesters, mid-life crises, what's left now?, all are welcome. Latter life situations are my specialty.

Hope Springs Eternal. The healing of hearts and souls are a life long passion for me. Emotional pain and suffering affects the whole of our bodies. Sickness and diseases are often the result of unresolved emotional pain caused by
grief
, adverse childhood experiences, and trauma. I will walk beside you through your emotional healing and the restoration to wholeness, Spirit, Soul, and Body.

We all have struggles we have to face—and sometimes we need the help of a trained professional to overcome those struggles. As a licensed counselor, I provide a safe and welcoming environment in which people can express themselves without fear of judgment, a place where they can feel heard and valued. Because I believe strong relationships are vital to the healing process, I am passionate about providing therapy from an interpersonal perspective. As such, I work with teens, couples, and families on issues ranging from spirituality to addiction to trauma to mood disorders such as anxiety, depression,
grief
, and anger.

You are significant and your story is important. My hope is for you to not only know this but believe it. The pain of feeling forgotten, rejected, or abandoned is often too much to manage. Trauma,
grief
, and anxiety tend to magnify these uncomfortable feelings and can lead to experiences of shame. At some point, you feel like you can no longer navigate this journey alone. The thing is, I don't think you are meant to carry it by yourself. I see your strength and I can see that you are tired. Inviting someone else in is not a step of weakness, it is absolutely a step of bravery.

We have an amazing ability to continue to engage in life with open, compassionate hearts, finding connection, peace, joy and rest. Good therapy helps promote clarity and progress toward change. I believe that therapy can provide the safety needed for self-exploration and for support in times of stress. And I believe that this safety is created through a trusting therapeutic alliance, which I rely heavily on in my practice. As a clinical social worker, I provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults who have a broad range of reasons for seeking therapy - these may include anxiety, depression, family conflict, low self-esteem, relationship struggles, parenting concerns, trauma, and
loss
.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
