Some of the more common problems addressed here are high anxiety, dysphoria/depression, attention deficit issues, post-traumatic stress, brain/memory dysfunction, relationship issues, communication issues, sadness/grief, and recovery from major illness or injury.
I provide counseling and consultative services. With the help of my colleague, Mark Shively, we also provide training using biofeedback technology. As a counselor, my role is to listen, discern strengths and vulnerabilities, and invite growth/advancement from those placing trust in my care. As a consultant, I strive to provide fair/impartial answers (in the manner of a scientist) to posed questions. Cognitive-behavioral training can address many thought patterns, behaviors and physiological states (such as stress).

Let me help you figure out what's holding you back and find real, practical solutions so you can live life the way you want to. I have experience working with teens, adults, and couples in sex addiction, OCD, pre-marital/marital counseling, trauma, anxiety, trauma, depression, ADHD , low self-esteem, anger issues, and spiritual direction.
In the wise words of Virginia Satir, we humans tend to choose the certainty of misery over the misery of uncertainty. As we wrestle with our fears, we often adopt patterns of controlling, avoiding, and numbing instead of accepting and confronting our suffering as God-given catalysts of growth and even purpose. As we sink deeper and continue to cling to what is familiar and comforting in the short run, we form harmful relational patterns or cycles of addictive impulsivity over time. Know that you aren’t meant to bear this burden alone. Counseling is for those who are brave enough to embrace their vulnerable state and learn from it.

While I work with a wide range of clients, I have been intentional about becoming a compassionate and competent safe space for individuals who often experience relational trauma and systemic oppression, such as queer clients (LGBTQIA+); clients of color (Black, Brown, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian); and Neurodivergent clients ( ADHD /ASD).
Clients I see are typically wrestling with experiences that have impacted the way they view themselves, relationships, and the world. These experiences can be located in their past, present, or future as relationships, events, and/or environments. The impact of these experiences often takes the form of anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship conflict, and more. My role is to help you navigate the impact of these experiences in a way that honors your unique set of values, beliefs, and cultural identity. I strive to take time in getting to know you in a way that makes you feel seen, heard, and understood.

I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, attachment theory, interpersonal and spiritual interventions to address anxiety, depression, grief, change of life/adjustment issues, faith/spirituality issues, suicidality, ADHD , and Bi-polar disorder.
Life and change is really hard. Change, even positive change, can bring adjustments, anxiety, and grief that can set us adrift and stifle forward movement. You feel stuck in the anxiety and wish for change, but change can feel elusive. Maybe you feel depressed or are grieving, but not sure why you feel that way. Healing, growth, and awareness can happen in the context of healthy relationships-relationship with self, others, and God. As a clinician, I want to work with you to cultivate a healthy relationship in order to facilitate movement on your unique path toward wholeness and health.

When someone is experiencing life stressors and hard times it can become difficult to have hope for happier days. It can be a hard journey to take in being able to learn how to cope with these stressors and find hope that one needs in order to live a healthier, happy life. It is my goal as your counselor to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment for someone to take this journey. I look forward to empowering people to grow as individuals and reach their goals that will help them to live a more meaningful life.

ADHD Therapists
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.
