Tired of years of therapy and no true, lasting healing? I work with individuals that have tried many forms of therapy, but still feel the deep pain of feeling alone, stuck, in a toxic relationship again, frequently being triggered, and haunted by their past. I specialize in working with adults who experienced childhood
sexual abuse
, narcissistic abuse, and trauma. Childhood trauma doesn't have to continue to have its grip on you, and take away your happiness! True healing is possible with EMDR. Over the 30 years that I have been in this field, I have seen hundreds of clients get their life, joy and happiness back.

There is a lot of "noise" in the world today; so much to sift through including these profiles of many therapists to decide who is worth your energy in contacting. My goal is to break through the unhelpful "noise" and authentically help you address the distress you're experiencing. Clients I’ve worked with have experiences related to depression, anxiety, PTSD (e.g., sexual
assault
, combat trauma), relationship issues or patterns, life transitions, and work/life/school stress. I have been trained in working from a multicultural perspective regarding identity considerations and related stress and with LGBTQIA+ and diverse populations.

Parenting is hard and full of unexpected challenges. If you are planning for a new addition to your family, experiencing strained relationships, dealing with behavioral problems, or are journeying with your child through trauma: I am here to help. I focused my career on working with parents, children, and adolescents who have experienced attachment challenges, trauma,
sexual abuse
, physical abuse, neglect, and who have been the victims of violent crime. I also have a six-session {pre}parenting counseling designed to address your story of attachment as a way to prepare you to become the parent you want to be.

I also have led small groups for adult survivors of
sexual abuse
using The Wounded Heart material.
I believe that walking alongside hurting individuals, couples, and families is a crucial element on the path to healing. Brokenness, chaos, shattered relationships, and loss are often concealed gifts of transformation. People who have experienced trauma resulting in attachment struggles, addictions, anxiety, codependency and relational conflict are common to the individuals I see. Keith, my husband, and I offer couples and family therapy together as we feel that it is effective and expedient. When I am not counseling with my husband, I work with individuals and families who are in crisis and are desperate for change.

It can be embarrassing, painful and debilitating to have intimacy or sexual problems. It may be due to physical problems, aging,
sexual abuse
, strict upbringing,
assault
or for an unknown reason. You or someone you love may live with out of control pornography or sexual behavior or addiction. You may have difficulty forming a long term intimate relationship with someone and not understand why. You may be looking for solutions and believe no one will understand or you may believe your situation is hopeless. You are looking for healthy intimacy and sexuality in your relationship and may not be sure why this is so difficult.

Trauma can adversely affect our lives by disconnecting us from our social network. We become disconnected from family and friends because we don’t believe they will understand. Whether this trauma happens at the age of 5, 15, or 35, the social disconnectedness it creates can remain. I want to work with you in creating a safe environment - as you find the life skills to make your life work again. Whether it's trauma, depression, grief,
sexual abuse
, teen self-esteem, excessive alcohol or drug consumption, or relationship/family issues – let me help you make sense of where the road went left. Call today.

Life is hard and it throws us one curve ball after the other. There is no need to go through it alone. Now is the time to focus on mending your heart from past and/or present wounds. If you've experienced triggers that are affecting your family, we can work through it. If your child is experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, behavioral issues, or lacks coping skills, we can work through it.

High quality, holistic therapy has never been more needed, more in demand, and more challenging to secure. Maybe you've tried various forms of therapy without seeing lasting results. Maybe you've been frustrated and discouraged by trying to get off of countless waitlists. Maybe you have never divulged what's going on inside of you to another person. There is a better way to nurture your nervous system, and it's accessible in a matter of hours. Using the body's built-in reset network, we work together to build new pathways in the brain and new experiences in the body that allow for the old stuff to release and new things to begin.

For over twenty-five years, I have done therapy with individuals experiencing life stress and/or chemical imbalances. I have successfully treated clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety and panic attacks. For the past five years, I have concentrated primarily on clients who have experienced emotional abuse from having been involved with a person who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Such relationships leave others feeling as thought the life has been sucked out of them. I have helped many clients go from feeling weak and depleted to strong and self confident; they regain self esteem and peace of mind.

Knowing that the therapeutic relationship is built on trust, hope, and care, I create an environment in which people can be themselves. My approach is holistic, acknowledging the interaction of mind, body and spirit in the healing process. I invite people to look at both how they have been hurt and what they have done with their pain. At core, I view counseling as a healing relationship that helps people grow in their capacity to love others and to love themselves.

I am a relational psychotherapist who offers warmth, careful attunement, and profound respect for your story. My approach to our work together will be collaborative and centered on your needs, strengths, and struggles. Clients who work with me often name reducing shame and increasing self-compassion as key components of our therapy’s success and may seek me out for help with feelings of anxiety, grief, depression, overwhelm, or shame. I bring a curiosity and attention to the ways that our identities impact what is important to us, how we move through the world, and how we are forced to navigate social inequities.

All of us can benefit from having someone walk with us through life's challenges. Reaching out takes courage. I'm passionate about building relationships with clients of all ages, rooted in developing trust and safety, to create the space and awareness to be who you were created to be. I believe we are designed to heal. Sometimes the strategies we developed to navigate the world initially helped us to survive, but they are no longer serving us, and are actually keeping us from living life fully. I journey alongside my clients as they reconnect with their true selves, rediscover hope, and step into a richer experience of life.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
