I have experience with a variety of populations and issues, as a private practitioner, residential/outpatient therapist, and an in-home family counselor.
Hello, I'm glad you stopped by! Please feel free to call/email me. I offer phone/email consultations to discuss what led you here and to see if we'd be a good therapeutic fit. Authenticity, compassion, non-judgment, honesty, and humor are the foundation of my work. As needed by the client, I shift from being primarily a listener, helping you to clarify your needs and wants, to action-oriented and directive, providing resources and skill building. I believe in comprehensive wellness, that emotional, physical, and relational health are interrelated, so even a small change in one area can affect the whole system.

I am presently working under supervision and a temporary license, as I pursue my license in marriage and family therapy .
In therapy, we work together to uncover and understand the impact of your journey on the way you view yourself, the world and your spirituality. We all need space and support to grow into the best version of ourselves and I have found that therapy can offer invaluable tools and insight for that growth. I believe that we have each been given the strength to overcome our stories and live fulfilling lives that reflect our values. I am passionate about working with individuals experiencing anxiety and depression, those navigating addiction, those affected by the addictions of loved ones, and those seeking healing from trauma.

Anxiety exhausts, paralyzes, and overwhelms us. Depression leaves us feeling hopeless, worthless, and alone. ADHD can stifle our productivity while crushing our self-esteem. Addiction keeps us in bondage to that which will never truly satisfy. And marital and family relationships that were supposed to serve as secure bases can quickly become sources of tremendous pain and distress. You've tried to overcome these issues on your own but to no avail; you feel stuck and as though you've run out of options. But there is hope!

I have experience working with clients experiencing depressive symptoms, anxiety and stress, ADHD, family conflict, trauma, and sleep disturbances.
As humans, we develop physically, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally throughout our lives. During our life our development becomes tested by typical and/or atypical challenges. How we respond to these challenges impacts our continued growth. I love working with people across the lifespan addressing these challenges during which learning, growth, and empowerment stem. I have a particular interest in working with children, adolescents, and young adults in their process of ‘becoming’.

I often use EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing; I have completed levels 1 and 2 and 40 hours of advanced training), IFS (internal family systems), EFT (emotionally focused therapy), and my trusty companion, Chaucy (registered therapy animal) to assist in you.
The path to healing is learning to love yourself well. I use love, compassion, curiosity and insight to help guide you on a journey to internal healing and peace. I am doing both in person and video therapy at this time. I would be honored to walk with you during this difficult time.

I see a wide range of clients from many different backgrounds. I like to say that I work with "real" people who are struggling with "real" problems. Some of the areas I see on a regular basis include anxiety issues, marital/ family problems, and college students. My approach to counseling is integrative and I tailor my sessions to the client and whatever they are struggling with. Often I take a cognitive behavioral approach, but also use other methods when I believe they will be effective.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
