Adoption Therapists in Brentwood, TN
I believe that one of the greatest power and influence in our lives are our relationships with others. It is from relationships that all of our trauma, negativity, and heartache originate; however, it is only through relationships that we can also find true healing for prior wounds that continue to determine present actions and emotions. The difference in these two kinds of relationships is honesty, vulnerability, and reciprocity: a mutual connection that cultivates intimacy and acceptance by removing shame and anxiety. It is only through these authentic relationships that we can truly feel complete and secure in our own skin.

Hi, I’m Diana. I’m so glad you’re here.
At some point in life, most of us reach a place where our usual ways of coping are no longer enough for what we’re going through. If that’s where you find yourself, you are not alone. I’ve been there too, and I know how deeply it can impact everything—your relationships, your work, even your body.
Most of my clients are women navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, panic and/or chronic pain and other health issues. I also enjoy supporting couples who want to heal, strengthen their bond, and deepen their connection. It would be an honor to walk alongside you, too.

Hi, I’m Aubrey, a Licensed Family Therapist and former school counselor specializing in work with children, adolescents, and families in the Nolensville and Brentwood areas.
Growing up today can feel overwhelming in ways that aren’t always easy to explain. Many young people carry anxiety, pressure, or emotional experiences that show up in behavior, relationships, or school. At Nolo Counseling, I provide a steady, supportive space where children and teens can begin to understand themselves, build their coping skills toolbox, and feel more confident navigating their world.

I love a few things: motorcycles, basketball, coffee, great books..... and water. I'm alive on the water, fishing rod in hand, my prize unseen beneath me, prowling the deep. I love counseling for the same reason. Searching the depths of the self in order to find, catch, and admire what lies beneath the surface of awareness. My world came crashing down when I was 19. Pain, fear, confusion, and anger were my constant companions for a long season. I began my own journey of healing with a gifted and caring therapist. It was beautiful and terrifying. And helpful.

Healing happens when we attend to our attachment wounds, address our inner parts' needs, and adopt healthy communication patterns and boundaries. When we feel heard in safe spaces, we can begin to unpack past hurts, explore our needs, and express our feelings. I utilize an integrative and supportive approach to honor clients' stories and needs, establish and reignite meaningful relationships, and practice mindful emotional expression. My goal is to support clients as they explore past memories, enhance present connections, and process their hopes for the future.

Maybe you’re the one everyone depends on — capable on the outside, but anxious or overwhelmed underneath. Your mind replays conversations, anticipates worst-case scenarios, or struggles to turn off at night. You may be navigating a difficult relationship, family tension, people-pleasing patterns, or stress that never seems to let up. I work with teen girls, adults, and couples who feel this way.
You want relief - not just from anxiety, but from constant pressure. You want healthier boundaries, steadier relationships, and the ability to respond instead of react. Most of all, you want to feel calm, confident, and grounded again.

Hello, fellow sensitive soul. First I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to consider therapy. As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), it’s likely you’ve felt painfully misunderstood in your life, even by those closest to you. I know I have. HSPs are gifted with tender hearts—we feel things deeply, notice details others miss, and carry the emotional weight of the world in ways that are both beautiful and, at times, exhausting. Your sensitivity is a profound strength and source of wisdom. At the same time, I understand how sensitivity can lead to overwhelm, shame, and self-doubt, especially in a fast-paced and insensitive world.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
