I also have completed training through the International OCD Foundation (IOCD) in the use of Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy for adults and children, which is the gold standard for OCD treatment
I provide therapy to people from all walks of life and tailor counseling to each individual. I meet people right where they are to help them take steps towards the life they want. I believe that people who struggle with their thoughts and feelings are often just looking for a way to be the person they want to be and sometimes get lost along the way. They want to hold true to their personal values when making choices but have trouble finding a way forward. I believe that, through therapy, people can learn new and creative ways to respond to those thoughts and feelings so they can get back to living a life guided by their values.

With a particular interest in social skills, Hilary specializes in working with obsessive compulsive disorder, individuals on the autism spectrum, and anxiety.
Life can be a lot. Between work, school, pandemics, financial crisis... I could go on, and on. Some of us are also dealing with debilitating anxiety, depression, and health issues. Many people are seeing the effects in their relationships, their work, and their spiritual life. Now more than ever, it's important to have a sounding board. The old ways of navigating through life might need to be adjusted. You want things to be different, but you're not sure how. You're ready to change, you just need some guidance to find your way.

What if you could not just heal from your trauma of the past and work through your current problems in life, but make for yourself a way of living that helps prevent future crises or tragedies from completely upending your life? Instead of just learning a bunch of coping skills to avoid tough topics and feelings that may keep you from growing at best, and actively make your depressive and anxiety symptoms elevated at worst, we dealt with the problem at hand and used the lessons learned to keep you from having to go to therapy, again, years later?

Are you going through a life transition, experiencing stress, and have feelings of anxiety or depression? Or do you struggle with an addiction? Life can be tough and the stress can be difficult deal with. It is not uncommon for this to make us feel isolated, alone, downhearted, and distressed. Imagine if you didn't have to feel this way. It can be a challenge, but people can feel healthy, happy, and "better".

How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
