NOW accepting new clients! You ask yourself, "will it ever stop?" The racing thoughts, the paralyzing self-doubt and the overwhelm. You’re easily triggered. It feels like you're on an emotional roller coaster. That intrusive voice is telling you that you’re not enough—you’ll never measure up. Perfectionism and procrastination keep you stuck. You find yourself in an unfulfilling job or relationship yet again. You long for connection, but are afraid of rejection. You seek comfort with alcohol, food, social media, work or shopping, but the feelings keep coming back.

My ideal client is someone who senses that the old stories they’ve lived by no longer serve them, even if those stories once helped them survive. They carry the lasting impact of caregivers who couldn’t fully show up, and their body still holds those experiences through tension, vigilance, or shutdown. They feel stuck in trauma responses and core beliefs that feel true despite knowing better. They long to feel safe, grounded, and at home in their body, and know they need more than talk therapy—they’re ready for healing that is compassionate and embodied, yet honest enough to challenge the patterns keeping them stuck.

Do you struggle with sex getting more daily attention than your closest relationships? Maybe a previous infidelity or betrayal continues to plague the relationship? Many of my clients struggle to make sense of emotions, but long to feel safe and connected to friends and family. Despite our best protective strategies, emotional experiences will not be ignored. Over a lifespan, adaptive protective strategies of the past become our prisons. Mal-adaptive in the present, old and helpful strategies of the past form the barriers to trusting safe and connected relationships we all desperately desire.

I help clients express themselves in a more honest and emotionally connected way, with the hope that this will transform their interpersonal relationships and life circumstances. I work best with those who are motivated to take risks and want to practice relating differently to others. I view the therapist-client relationship as the most powerful tool in helping individuals to move toward personal responsibility, strengthen their sense of self, and promote resilience. I welcome and affirm individuals of all religious and/or spiritual backgrounds, as well as the diversity of sexual and gender identities and their expressions.

I work with adolescents, adults, young adults, and couples facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship conflict, life transitions, and substance use concerns. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns they want to change. Couples often seek help improving communication, rebuilding trust, or navigating difficult life changes together. In therapy, we slow things down, identify the patterns driving distress, and develop practical tools that help individuals and couples create healthier relationships and more stable lives.

We all go through times in our lives when we find ourselves a little lost and simply need someone to help us find our way. I have been helping adolescents, adults and families find their way through challenging times since 1996. Primarily, I utilize a client centered approach that allows clients to be in charge of their therapy and decide what the course of treatment will be and what goals to focus on. I also encourage clients to find their motivation and passions in life that will empower them to continue growing beyond the time in counseling.

I work with teens, young adults, and couples navigating anxiety, life transitions, and relationships issues. I believe that therapy is meant to be a space for in depth exploration, creating insight that leads towards tangible moments of change. Using a holistic approach that integrates attachment theory, Restoration Therapy, and Emotionally Focused therapy, I work to create a safe and approachable space that allows clients to explore the challenges of life to live fully as their most authentic selves.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
