Often in life we can find ourself in a place of distress, darkness, chaos and feel like there is nobody that understands or cares. Sometimes you are the parent of the child that is always kicked out of school, or you painfully watch your child go through something you know is just so upsetting but you are not able to help. Maybe you are told you are just not enough so much that you have started to believe it. I am a prescriptive therapist with a vast array of skills and training ready to set some goals and work to help you make change happen.

TRAUMA: A threatening experience that is too much, too fast. When stressed out or truly overwhelmed, our instinctual survival responses can be blocked. If unable to complete our body’s survival responses, trauma occurs and symptoms emerge. We can feel stuck in flight, fight or freeze. Negative feelings, thoughts, behaviors and stress disorders often lie within the mind-body connection. As one who facilitates healing from emotional, spiritual, and physical pain and suffering, I am dedicated to working compassionately, non-judgmentally and collaboratively with you to become "unstuck" and find a greater sense of healing and wholeness.

Progress is made in the struggle; if we’re not struggling, we’re stagnant. People are inherently resilient and resourceful, but sometimes we bump up against something that leaves us feeling stuck or disconnected. If you have found yourself reading this, perhaps you’re tired of feeling “stagnant” or you feel ready to wrestle with the issues bringing you to therapy. I work to provide a space where my clients feel safe to shift from shame to curiosity and compassion in order to re-connect with self, others, and the world around them.

"I provide a safe, warm, nonjudgmental environment that embraces change. I provide an empathic and supportive approach which integrates psychodynamic and psychoanalytic techniques in order to help clients not only reduce symptoms, but to also explore and understand the unmet needs that have driven the behavior. I help clients build upon their strengths to help empower them. Clients need to understand that they are not having a breakdown, but a break through. The symptoms your are experiencing are normal based on a abnormal experiences. Through assessments and sessions I create a specialized treatment plan.

A woman often begins her work with me because she's frustrated. Frustrated by emotional highs & lows, anxiety, or anger; by depression that's stealing her joy, or an inability to forgive that's creating bitterness. She often has a history of childhood trauma & shame that’s been largely ignored. What compounds these frustrations is a belief she carries that if she could just trust God more, she’d find healing. I help Christian women by listening without judgment, honoring her past, offering hope for her future, & teaching practical strategies to support her emotional & spiritual health.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
