You want to feel better—but insight alone hasn’t been enough. You can explain your triggers, but still feel stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed. You’ve carried the weight of being the strong one, and now you're ready for something deeper. You want to connect with the parts of you that hold pain, pressure, or fear, and learn how to soothe them with compassion. In relationships, you may struggle with communication or feeling truly seen. You're seeking peace, emotional clarity, and deeper connection—with yourself and your partner. You’re ready to heal from the inside out.

Overwhelmed and stressed by the thought of being "Superwoman" again? Time after time, you find yourself rescuing others and putting others before you. Leaving absolutely no time for yourself. Tired of constantly being the "Strong One?" Leaving yourself feeling drained and unfulfilled. At work, you go above and beyond but it goes unnoticed. At home, your days are filled with tasks that take up your entire day but you still feel unappreciated. Personally, you have told yourself that staying busy, overextending yourself and being the "Strong One" equals your success, value and worth.

I honed my helping skills providing over a decade of individual, couple, and family counseling and working several years in the crisis intervention and crisis stabilization field in the states of California and Virginia. My experience and knowledge equips me to share with others as a marriage and family therapist, minister, coach, consultant and author, and allows me to facilitate positive change in peoples' lives. As a helper of people, I understand that we, human beings, express our greatest potential when we discover and remove the obstacles that hinder our capabilities.

I have treated "all things pregnancy" for several years including pregnancy loss, postpartum depression, adoption and infertility.
I consider it an honor to walk alongside my clients on their journey towards healing. My therapy approach is highly collaborative. I value the therapeutic relationship more than any technique or theory itself. Initiating counseling is often a big and difficult step and I do my best to help you feel relaxed, comfortable and welcome. I am passionate about working with clients experiencing loss and grief. Many presenting issues come down to a loss- loss of a loved one, loss of a pregnancy, loss of hopes/dreams, loss of a marriage...and working through loss requires time, connection and a safe place.

Each individual person has unique gifts and positive personal attributes to discover within themselves. Therapy can be a place to identify personal strengths or to begin to heal from pain. In my approach to therapy, the client is always the expert on their own lives. The most important part of my job is to partner with clients to discover what might be getting in the way of personal growth or relationship satisfaction.

There is a time in all our lives when it feels that nobody understands, somebody fails to listen, and we feel we have to figure it out by ourselves and that doesn't work either. Finding yourself in that desperate place is an appropriate time to tell your story to a therapist who desires to listen and help you understand where you've been and come along side you to assist you in knowing where you want to go. Courageously step toward the therapy process and embrace the hope that reminds you that you don't have to stay stuck or remain in the dark.

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. Starting therapy can sometimes feel daunting, and I understand how difficult it can be to ask for help. I believe that all of us are works in progress and that personal growth is a lifelong process that doesn't just begin and end while you're seeing a therapist. But sometimes, when you need extra support, therapy can make all the difference when going through difficult circumstances.

I believe that reaching out is the first and most important step toward support and healing. I specialize in helping individuals find themselves, individuals going through the coming out process, or going through any other life changes. I am experienced in assisting LGBTQ people (and loved ones) who are dealing with religious trauma and trying to connect and heal both worlds of their faith, and who they are. I am working with the senior population and their family members who are possibly facing caregiver burnout. I am skilled in working with foster kids, adopted children, and their families with adjusting to their new environment.

Life hasn't always been easy for me; however, even at 49, it was not too late to make serious changes and become more of the person I wanted to be. If life has been difficult for you, I understand that every person is unique, has a story, deserves to be listened to, and can change. You are more than you feel like you are. Rebuilding a person's vision for a better tomorrow, is always a good step in the right direction.

Too often we live life in the fog of good health and favorable circumstances. But then, inevitably, something happens. Something difficult and hard to understand that pushes to the forefront the need for wisdom. Is there hope? On whom can I depend? What am I living for? What matters? Will I live? How will I live? Author and poet Wendell Berry said: "It may be that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings."

Our past experiences often influence how we view ourselves and interact in relationships. Sometimes, those patterns stem from pain and continue to affect us in ways that can keep us feeling stuck or disconnected. If you’re seeking healing and growth with a desire to or break negative cycles and are ready for change, I’d be honored to help you navigate what comes next and walk alongside you.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
