I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 20-plus years experience in the human services field and I have served individuals and families in a variety of capacities. I have experience working with individuals of all ages, including teenagers, college students, and adults. My primary areas of focus have been treating depression, anxiety, relationship/peer issues, grief issues, and family issues. I believe that mental health is a key component of our overall wellness and that the time is now to address the stressors and thoughts that prevent us from meeting our full human potential.
Because of my background in the social services field, I also have immense experience dealing with trauma-related issues, such as abuse; attachment issues; and out-of-home placements. Additionally, I have worked with students and athletes to address performance anxiety and issues related to academics and athletics.
While I believe that therapy should be tailored to each individual, the foundation of my counseling philosophy is based in Cognitive Therapy and Family Systems Theory. I also believe that in order for therapy to be effective, it is important to develop and build a healthy and positive therapeutic relationship.
