About
I believe that clients can achieve motivation and personal growth as a result of our work together, while feeling at ease and having an occasional laugh along the way. We all encounter numerous life transitions and challenges, some wonderful and welcome, others less so. These transitions can sometimes produce stress and anxiety, causing emotional turmoil. I assist clients by utilizing a positive, practical approach that promotes heightened self-awareness and the realization of greater personal fulfillment. We develop a path which meaningfully improves one's outlook and sense of well-being. A quality connecton between the client and counselor contributes to increased optimism and success.
As a therapist and clinical social worker since 1980, my primary focus centers on counseling college-age students and older adults. My multi-faceted background and life experience have informed my therapeutic approach, and I have greatly benefitted from working with and assisting people of varied backgrounds, viewpoints, and circumstances.
I am listed with the University of Michigan's Community Provider Database: umcpd.org. Please visit there or better still, view my homepage/website, thomaspaynecounseling.org. I accept insurance, and my sliding scale fees are quite reasonable, taking into consideration student status and overall circumstances. Feel free to contact me for an initial telephone consultation.
