We all have suffering in our lives-- it's part of human experience. Too often, however, there is a layer of unnecessary psychological pain caused by unconscious defenses. We often resist painful feelings and the realities they point to. When this happens chronically we can get stuck in our resistance, becoming emotionally and physically sick. So our suffering increases. I work together with patients to build and/or embrace their capacity to honestly and compassionately face, untangle, and accept truths they can no longer resist.
The human person is a mystery, but therapy shouldn't be. Together we'll efficiently achieve clear consensus about the internal conflicts you are facing and what we'll both need to do to support your healthy goals. Most of the time this will involve helping you see your anxiety and defenses and building your capacity to accept and feel your hidden feelings.
Life is hard, too hard to face alone. But a relationship founded on honesty and compassion can make it bearable and livable. In therapy we'll form a relationship for change and create an alliance focused on your goals and priorities.
