About
I am a doctoral psychologist who provides teletherapy and outdoor walking sessions. My office is in N. Portland. I have a specialty helping people overcome distress about climate change and environmental issues. ** CURRENTLY I ONLY HAVE OPENINGS FOR CLIENTS WITH THIS FOCUS. ** I have a direct, supportive style. I work with adult women, men and couples of diverse backgrounds and orientations. I have 25 years of experience. In addition to climate or eco-distress, I help people with personal growth; reducing anxiety or depression; dealing with losses; improving communication and relationships; and public speaking and job performance.
I am supportive, give direct feedback, and focus on your strengths. Clients say things like: "Thomas helped me find the confidence and tools to pursue my dream career..." or "I ... approach new relationships differently now..." Learn about me on my website: http://selfsustain.com or blog: http://selfsustain.com/blog/
I teach, write and supervise other counselors. My research on psychology and the natural environment has been featured in publications like the New York Times. I was the editor of an academic research journal and founded a graduate training program for counselors. I have written several papers and book chapters in the last few years on psychology topics.
