About

Currently taking only referrals for couples and group therapy, as well as coaching. With 20+ years of experience as a psychologist, my primary focus is psychoanalytically-based couples and group psychotherapy, as well as executive coaching. I assist executives, family businesses, and healthcare leaders through individual and group coaching. Coaching goals include conflict resolution, navigating career or organizational transition, cultivating emotional intelligence, enhancing executive presence, improving communication, leading to motivate and inspire others, and increasing personal and professional fulfillment.
I provide both psychotherapy and coaching in individual and group formats. From me, you should expect high-level expertise, attentive listening, warmth, and respect. You should also expect candid and specific feedback delivered straightforwardly. Many of my clients are healthcare providers and executives. I also offer supervision and therapy for therapists.
In psychotherapy, I view the primary tasks as promoting self-understanding, decoding the meaning of symptoms (not suppressing them), increasing well-being, and cultivating fulfilling, engaged relationships in life. Therapy requires honest self-reflection and hard work. Through therapy, people often develop greater compassion for themselves and others.

Thomas E Thorsheim's Groups

Group Coaching for Business Leaders/Executives

This is a long-term coaching group for executives and business leaders. The same strict requirements of privacy and confidentiality apply to this coaching group as to my therapy groups. Goals include enhancing resilience and stress management, improving self-care, developing emotional intelligence, navigating promotions, leadership development, and increasing skills in collaboration and conflict resolution. The group is designed to support the unique needs and demands of leaders, and the challenges these create both at home and work.

This group is open to those who are married or in long-term, committed relationships, and is affirming of LGBTQ couples.

Training Group for Coaches and Therapists

Whether you are just 3-4 years into practice development, or a seasoned provider, this group is about supporting your whole being both as an individual and as an important change agent and facilitator in the lives of your clients. It is about enhancing your skills as an individual coach, therapist, or group leader, and supporting you in "walking your talk" in life. This is an open-ended, long-term group that explores clinical concepts including transference and counter-transference, counter-transference resistance, overcoming your barriers to practice development, and helping you identify and magnify your unique gifts.
