Hi there, I'm Theresa! I am a counselor and a marriage and family therapist in Rich Creek, Virginia. I see clients in my home and with teletherapy, throughout the state of Virginia. I work with clients of all ages. I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques, with a specialty in Solution-focused and systemic therapies. With over thirty years of experience, I have worked with a wide variety of problems.
I try to be my authentic self with clients, such as laughing when things are funny and empathizing when things are sad. My counseling style is not just about listening; it is also about feedback. I teach skills to manage problems and often have people practice these skills during the session or in between sessions.
I utilize a solution-focused technique that helps the client think about what changes they want in a positive way instead of only examining past problems, which often focus on negatives. Clients have often said that this method helps them focus on goals without much difficulty.
