All of us were taught how to do relationship from those who surrounded us in childhood. Some of those lessons were healthy and others not so much. Instead, we were not taught how to effectively communicate, that emotions were “weak,” and our boundaries did not matter. And as a result, we’ve been exposed to manipulation, abuse and/or have taught ourselves to be so protective of ourselves that we don’t let others in and end up feeling lonely.
My specialty is adult attachment. In sessions we will: 1. Walk through signature moments of childhood 2. Identify stories that shaped your view of different relationship types. 3. Challenge those false and negative stories with “receipts” of healthier experiences 4. Create new stories to reprogram thoughts 5. Practice healthier relationship wellness.
As a relational therapist, I understand the frustration in not being able to experience healthy connections with others, the disappointment when they fail, and the feelings of loneliness that comes.
