Clients coming from a faith background of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or
Mormon
) often find it valuable to work with someone who understands the teachings and culture of the church.
You've likely done so much to try and fix things, but self-help isn't cutting it. This is why I tailor therapy to you and focus on giving you my full attention. I know each person is unique, with varying experiences and circumstances. I don't have any canned speeches, and I get down in the thick of things with you. Because our minds, bodies, and contexts are interconnected, I assess wholistically for what might be most helpful. I use therapy to create new experiences that build a sense of empowerment and compassion for yourself. Sometimes we need to change our minds first, and sometimes our behaviors, and we experiment with both.

Are you struggling in your marriage/relationship? Does this sound familiar? Hi, my husband and I do not seem to be happy anymore. Over the years we have both made some bad mistakes and have hurt each other. Now, we hardly talk and when we do it becomes an argument, we say a lot of hurtful things to each other. In our last argument, things got really out of hand, and he left the house, slamming the door, and hasn't been back home since. I have been crying since last night. We love each other, but, after our last fight I just don’t know what to do or where to go from here. I really need some help.

You love your partner and don't want to end up divorced, but you're scared. Deep down you wonder, is this all there is? You are frustrated that you keep having the same fight. You wonder if things will ever get better. Maybe if you learned how to communicate, things would get better? But you do fine communicating with everyone else. How is it that your partner knows just how to push your buttons? You feel hurt and frustrated so quickly. You don't know how to tell them how much you miss them and long for that connection. There just doesn't seem to be much energy left for you or your relationship, including intimacy.

I know some days are harder than others. I know it feels like two steps forward 3 steps back a lot of the time. I know overwhelm and panic creep up at inconvenient times, even with no explanation. It feels like there should be answers somewhere. It's frustrating, you want to figure it out once and for all. One minute your relationship is great and the next you're misunderstood and fighting. The Gottman Method can help. There truly can be calm amidst the storm. I use tools proven to help you feel understood and connected. Stop questioning your worth, your value, and all of your decisions. Let's work on it together.

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist specialized to work with couples struggling with intercultural differences. You might feel like there is a disconnect between you and your partner which has led you to feel distant from each other. Maybe you disagree on how to raise the children, or what traditions and routines should look like in your family. These differences may also show up in your relationship with extended family. You are tired of discussing these topics and always ending in an argument with your partner. You want to feel closer to your partner, but you feel stuck and do not know how to make things better.

Life can be wonderful, interesting, challenging but no one ever said it would be easy! Never before have we faced such a difficult onslaught of problems affecting our work, school, social and even medical aspects of our lives. The good news is that counseling has never been easier to access. Our friends tell us what we want to hear, counselors tell us what we need to hear and give us the tools to make changes to help us on our journey. I have been a counselor since 1991 and am just as passionate about my work today as the day I started.

A woman often begins her work with me because she's frustrated. Frustrated by emotional highs & lows, anxiety, or anger; by depression that's stealing her joy, or an inability to forgive that's creating bitterness. She often has a history of childhood trauma & shame that’s been largely ignored. She wants to improve her coping skills, mood and relationships, but doesn't know where to start.

How can I find a therapist in Texas?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
