After years of attempting to solve lingering problems on your own or with other professionals, you still don't feel whole. You want the confusion in your mind and blame in your heart to go away. Even though you keep saying "My parents did the best they could," deep down you still feel angry and hurt. The romance in your life is either non-existent or looks like an instagram of two-single people living under the same roof. Pain in your chest overshadows the longing for intimacy. Where did your connections go? What happened to your desires and strength? You feel alone lost in sadness and resigned to a life that is unfulfilled.

My ideal client is someone with a listening ear, with the courage to reimagine his/her life. Someone with dreams and a passion to realize them... Or maybe somebody broken and lost. Someone imperfect. Because that's real. That's being human. To quote a British philosopher: "I'm not looking for somebody with some superhuman gifts, some superhero, some fairy tale bliss... I want something just like this..."

You’re fucking exhausted. This is not where you thought you’d be at this age. You think you should’ve already figured out your relationships, your career, your family, etc. Isn’t there more to life?! All you want to do is crawl into bed and pull the covers over your head. The mean voice inside keeps telling you that you aren’t good enough, that you don’t deserve to rest. “Take care of everyone else before taking care of yourself." “You have to be strong…All The Damn Time.“ You can’t say no because then they won’t like you."

I'm culturally aware and work well with a variety of people. I especially welcome adult men and women, immigrants, women of color and any people with complex barriers to living the life they want. My ideal client is someone that might carry around a lot of shame, self loathing, professionally successful but struggling with internal disdain. I enjoy working with moms of special needs children to help them find themselves again. Additionally, I enjoy working with single women looking to improve unhealthy relationship patterns and reach their goal of finding a healthy partner.

“A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.” -John A. Shedd. Is PTSD or anxiety costing you more and more every day? Has avoidance of distress become your focus, rather than your family, friends, or goals? Are you finding yourself struggling to engage and be present in your own life? If any of these sound like you, are you ready to try something different?

Life can be wonderful, interesting, challenging but no one ever said it would be easy! Never before have we faced such a difficult onslaught of problems affecting our work, school, social and even medical aspects of our lives. The good news is that counseling has never been easier to access. Our friends tell us what we want to hear, counselors tell us what we need to hear and give us the tools to make changes to help us on our journey. I have been a counselor since 1991 and am just as passionate about my work today as the day I started.

What cost is anxiety taking out of your life? Wasted time and energy, living in fear of making a mistake, missing out, being hurt or rejected. And past experiences make this worse, amping up the negative inner-voice that chips away at your self-worth. So you cope by throwing yourself into work/school, caring for others, and neglecting your own needs in the process: the busier you are, the less anxious you think you’ll feel. But that's the anxiety trap, and instead of feeling better, you're just drained, down on yourself and unsure of what to do next. Together, we can find a different path to taking your life back from anxiety!

How can I find a therapist in Texas?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
