Since 2014, I have worked on the child study teams in the public-school systems. I enjoy explaining to parents and children how they best learn and what schools can do to help them achieve their goals. Watching parents and kids get a better understanding of how their brain works and they can use their strengths to balance out their challenges is essential to being a psychologist to me.

I am a pediatric neuropsychologist at the Center for CBT specializing in the neuropsychological evaluation of children and adolescents who experience a variety of cognitive, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges. I have particular expertise in assessing and diagnosing concerns related to ADHD/attention problems, learning difficulties, and autism. I conduct carefully planned and comprehensive evaluations that include a range of standardized tests, a school observation (as needed), and consultation with your child's teachers. I also administer the ADOS-2 as part of a diagnostic assessment for autism.

Intergenerational family dysfunction is not inevitable. I work with adults and children to untangle relational and behavioral patterns that are often foundational to the presenting problem. I take an integrative, strength-based approach and help the client identify perceptions and attributions that may be interfering with optimal self development and fulfilling relationships. This therapeutic approach is helpful in changing dysfunctional relational dynamics to those that promote growth and well-being.

I provide neuropsychological evaluations for the purpose of: Identifying issues that impact learning (such as, problems with attention, reading, writing and mathematics), Identifying an intellectual disability or intellectual giftedness, Diagnosing neurodevelopmental disorders (such as Autism Spectrum Disorder), and diagnosing neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias.

Many clients would prefer a deeper understanding of the symptoms they or their child experiences. Underlying each condition are patterns of information which are particular to each person's brain, and are identifiable through neuropsychological evaluation and neuroimaging using qEEG. Understanding how your brain functions provides you with choices for treatment which otherwise may not exist. I believe that an evidence based approach to treatment which begins with a thorough evaluation is the first step in helping clients achieve a positive therapeutic outcome. Our services also include sibling support groups, family counseling, social skills groups, and school consultation.

I am a firm believer in encouraging positivity, bolstering self-efficacy, and cultivating independence in others. My typical client is a child, adolescent, or young adult (age 3 to 29) who may be struggling academically, socially, or with developing effective emotional coping skills. Often, the individuals I see have difficulty with attention, concentration, organization, and with meeting the daily demands required of them at school. I also offer much support to parents who may be frustrated with their attempts at connecting with their kids and who are in need of guidance relating to discipline techniques and behavior management.

I take the mystery out of therapy by working collaboratively with you. My role then tends to be like a coach or instructor. We set goals together. I do not make decisions for my clients. Rather we look for patterns in thinking, actions, and relationships that cause problems. We examine the positive and negative outcomes that cause people to get stuck in negative emotions. While we look to the past to learn how patterns are shaped, this treatment is present and future focused. It is more important to build on your strengths than to dwell on weaknesses.

Specifically, I focus on helping children, adolescents, and young adults presenting with anxiety, school related stress, depression, ADHD, peer & relationship difficulty, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, behavior problems, and school challenges (i.e. school refusal/avoidance, poor executive skills, organizational difficulties, homework inconsistency, etc.). Dr. Nicole Peniston is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) in the state of New Jersey who has over 5 years of experience working with adults and children to assess and treat a variety of psychological and developmental disorders that are affecting functioning at home, school, work, or in the community. She specializes in assisting clients with stress management, low self-esteem, anxiety, identity issues, family conflict, depression, and more. She obtained her Master's and Doctorate degree in Psychology from Widener University's Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology in 2015.

I am a forensic and clinical psychologist with expertise in conducting psychological evaluations in legal contexts. More specifically, I conduct evaluations including those for child custody, violence and sex-offender risk assessment, independent medical evaluations, fitness for duty, fitness to carry a firearm, international adoption, and child custody evaluations.

Dr. Couvadelli is an adult and pediatric Neuropsychologist/Psychologist with areas of expertise in clinical neuropsychology, cognitive rehabilitation and health psychology. Dr. Couvadelli obtained her PhD in Behavioral Medicine with a focus on Cognitive Neuroscience. She completed an internship in clinical psychology/neuropsychology, a fellowship in cognitive rehabilitation, and a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology. Dr. Couvadelli has served as the head of Pediatric Neuropsychology at JFK Medical Center, NJ and she holds the appointment of Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Seton Hall University School of Health/Medical Sciences.
