My name is Dr. R. Austin Heafey - I am a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, parents and families. While every client is unique, my fundamental aim remains the same: improve self-esteem, build self-confidence and enrich my patient's self-worth. When a person has faith in their abilities and feels comfortable with who they are, they are better able to engage with the world they live in, the family they belong to and the life they deserve to experience. I specialize in working with the queer/LGBTQIA+ community, eating disorders, and severe mental illness such as bipolar disorder. I also work with those working on their relationship with money and their finances. You may feel anxious or depressed, that your old ways of doing things are not working anymore. You may feel overwhelmed and like you could use a supportive guide in facing life's challenges. Or maybe you do not know why you are feeling the things you feel or doing the things you are doing. I provide individual psychotherapy to older adolescents and adults using primarily cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based strategies. I specialize in working with individuals who experience anxiety, self-judgment, depression, life transitions, or obstacles that may keep them from experiencing greater ease, joy, and alignment in their lives. I also provide psychological and psychoeducational assessments to children and adults to better understand their learning or psychological profile and to receive services that will help them reach their full potential.

I work collaboratively with patients in individual therapy and while conducting neuropsychological, psychodiagnostic, and psychoeducational assessments. I provide information regarding patients' limitations, capabilities, cognitive functioning and diagnostic considerations. My interests and experience have contributed to my specializing in diagnosing and treating neuropsychological and educational disabilities (including ADHD/ADD) as well as working with individuals experiencing mood, adjustment and anxiety disorders. I assist people in the development of academic, professional and personal skills and the building of confidence in order to support reaching their highest potential. I provide behavioral pain management and work with patients who are adjusting to various disabilities.

For nearly 20 years I have worked with teens and adults in a variety of settings to help them navigate challenges in their lives and build more meaningful relationships. I work from an integrative approach using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a focus on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Relational Psychodynamic Therapy, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). Likewise, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and related somatic-based interventions.
