You know you're a good parent. You know you're a good partner or spouse. So why are things so difficult? In spite of our best efforts and intentions, life can present us with unexpected challenges in our families, challenges that push us to our very limits. When family members are faced with special needs, chronic illness or estrangement it impacts everyone. Understanding this will allow you to be your best self and the best advocate or caregiver you can be. As a therapist, my goal is to give troubled families the support they need to restore balance and wellness.

A significant, life-altering challenge in your family can be like living in a parallel universe, fundamentally different from your expectations and dreams. Coming to terms with these unmet expectations is a key aspect of coping with - and growing from - life's challenges including: Special Needs, Chronic Illness, and Estrangement.

Before embarking on my path as a therapist, I have worked in marketing, training/organization development, and education. My experience in other fields brings depth to my work as a therapist. I have helped people determine the correct placements-including special education, residential treatment, and rehabilitation.

Terri Barach's Groups

Estrangement from Children

This group is a support group for those dealing with the unwanted estrangement from their teen or adult children. This group uses the techniques and format from Dr. Joshua Coleman in the Berkeley area. Estrangement from children can be devastating and understood only by those experiencing similar pain. Please call me as I interview members before they can attend. The cost will be kept low.
