About
As holders of reality and pain for others, therapists often find themselves deprived of the care that they graciously give others. Mothers who are therapists are more susceptible to this because of our tendency to put ourselves last. As a result, we often are left to bear the weight of our pain alone. The reality is that we are not designed to contain it all. We need the holding container that we give others despite the level of education and training we have. Seeking therapy for ourselves is paramount to our ability to provide competent practice without burnout. It is also the best form of self care.
What almost 30 years of experience has taught me is that the sacred work of therapy requires being in the presence of an attuned other who has the capacity to bear witness to pain until it becomes tolerable enough to make meaning and use of it. This is what I give my clients who are also therapists...enlarged capacity to bear witness to pain.
Because I believe emotional pain has an unique way of informing us in our clinical work, I would like to help you achieve the goal of making use of your pain to help enlarge your capacity to do the important work that you do.
