At ICFT, we see people who have tried everything and have made the courageous decision to admit they need some help. For example, couples that want to stop arguing and find the joy in their relationship. Parents that want to stop being irritated and gain new skills to help their children succeed. Families that need help navigating a path toward healing. Nothing is more frustrating than trying really hard and still feeling like the particular problem is not getting better. At ICFT, we help our clients learn new approaches, so they don't simply try hard, but actually see progress.

It takes courage to change. It can also take some help. When we sit down together, you can expect the warm, open environment and engaged listener that you deserve. Maybe you want to increase feelings of calm or self-acceptance, of peace or relief. Maybe you want to experience more of your own resilience and strength, or that of your relationship. Whether you have something you need to accept or confront, our time together can give you the skills and insight you need to experience your life the way you would like to--and to make what's come before part of a fuller, brighter journey.

Do you find yourself feeling sadness, anxiety, and despair but you don't know why? Do you find yourself dismissing these feelings because you know you have a great life on paper? Maybe because you realize how fortunate you are, you feel ashamed and embarrassed to tell others about how you're really feeling and so instead you have been dealing with these feelings all on your own. It's ok to feel this way and please know that you're not alone. Together, we will work to understand where this pain is coming from because that pain you're feeling is real. And together, we will work to help you restore your life to where you want it.

Accepting New Clients! Do you feel overwhelmed, avoid overwhelming tasks, anxious, unorganized, forgetful, emotional, and struggling with connection in your relationships? You had it all together. Now you feel you can barely keep your head above water. Could the reason(s) be past childhood/adult trauma, relationship stress, parenthood, anxiety, or even hidden ADHD? People are receiving later in life inattentive ADHD diagnoses at unprecedented numbers. It's a myth when they say ADHD is over diagnosed. Inattentive ADHD is often missed due to lack of education in the healthcare system and it often looks like anxiety/depression.

I love to help couples and relationships find their connection. You might feel there is a pattern to your fights. You argue about the same things and are both left feeling alone and not important to your person. We will explore how to identify and ask for what you want in a way that feels less threatening to the relationship. Let's rebuild the intimacy and closeness that you need to feel fulfilled. Working on communication by expressing our emotions and needs, slowing down the cycle and developing new experiences can bring about lasting connection.

I believe clients in therapy need a competent practitioner, aware of the current best practices/research, yet they also need someone who is genuine, relatable and can apply a sense of humor while working through life's challenges. I provide caring psychotherapy to adults, couples, families and children.I believe my clients are "peers" not "patients" and apply a humanistic style. I have eighteen years experience as a therapist and love my career. My work as a professor and national public speaker also help me to be a competent therapist. I have received positive feedback over the years for my genuineness, competence, humor and compassion.

You feel like your romantic relationship lacks direction. You start arguing over small things, but the arguments perhaps persist because you both focus on winning instead of solving the problem. You have stressful careers, but meeting career and home demands seem impossible. You want the best for your kids, but are you pushing them too hard or not hard enough? Perhaps you are both used to getting your way at work, but at home, there is a need for compromise. Maybe the spark that was once there has left, at least most of the time. You want to have what you once had, but are not sure how. You love your partner but aren't "in love."

Nothing is more frustrating than trying really hard and still feeling like a particular problem or relationship is not improving. Does this sentence describe you? Do you feel like no matter how hard you try; your marriage is still stuck? Or you cannot figure out some aspect of parenting? If this frustration of trying without improvement describes an important aspect of your life, then now is the time to try therapy.

I believe in developing a unique and trusting relationship with each individual client enabling me to work collaboratively with those involved. I strive to create new experiences for both couples and families during sessions; this is one of the core antidotes to long-term success once therapy is successfully completed. I work with couples to help identify their strengths and areas of growth as it relates to their spousal relationship, as well as their co-parenting relationship, which are central to the assessment and treatment process. This multi-systemic approach to therapy significantly increases success and overarching treatment goals.

I am a clinical counselor that works with clients that are struggling with various concerns, symptoms and diagnosis, but my unique focus areas are Eating Disorders (restrictive types), OCD and anxiety disorders. This overall often includes, but is not limited to clients with personalities that are anxious in nature, Type A, or over-controlled. These can be challenging personalities, because individuals are often seen as thriving, but underneath they're struggling with subjects such as perfection, difficulty with change, feeling overwhelmed or other just to keep up. We'll work together to break the unknown habits to improve your life

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Dublin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
