Tara Travia, PhD, Psychologist in Reston
I work collaboratively with clients to increase their well-being, achieve goals, and better manage life's challenges. I believe everyone has the innate capacity to heal wounds caused by these difficulties and experience more joy everyday. Although healing comes from within, it is sometimes elusive and my work is providing direction when needed and tools to help the brain heal. I utilize Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) techniques and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for treating all levels and types of trauma. I work extensively with combat veterans and those transitioning to a new phase of life.
I specialize in the treatment of trauma. Trauma comes in many forms: chronic and acute, sexual and combat, childhood and adult. I have had great success in treating these and believe I can help you to heal. I work daily with combat veterans and victims of sexual assault.
I am certified in EMDR, a highly effective method for the treatment of trauma. I combine this with mindfulness and meditation methods as well as CBT/ACT to help individuals heal fractured sleep, soothe their injured brains, and find a way forward through daily anxiety and depression to peace.
