Clients want to be heard and validated without judgment on their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. So often the view of therapy is someone telling someone what to do with their life, when the therapeutic space should be a collaborative space that helps a client identify their strengths and learning how they can become the narrators of their lives again. Learning adaptive skills rather than coping strategies provides structures for sustaining progress in understanding symptoms, managing responses with empathy, and sustaining progress made in treatment.
I strive to create an environment of self-exploration that is nurturing and safe. My focus is providing clients a space to discover they have the capability to manage their mental health through introspection and reflection. It's important to provide services that not only teach but also help clients acknowledge their power and ability to overcome obstacles.
Society reinforces the notion that we must work through life alone, when so much of this life should be explored together in a safe space. Exploring emotional vulnerability can be challenging but is rewarding when the proper structure to examine one’s experiences is provided therapeutically.
