I believe that counseling serves as a therapeutic process where the client is the expert in her/his life story. As the counselor, I co-collaborate with the client to assist in providing guidance while the client may safely explore areas within her/his life including, but not limited to identity development, attachment issues, values and interests, goals, and potential fears and barriers.
I hold a Ph.D. in Counseling and Human Development Services from Kent State University. I have a Master of Fine Arts in Writing and Poetics with a Concentration in Poetry from Naropa University. In addition, I obtained a Master’s of Education in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling and in the past have worked both in the public and private sector assisting
clients with disabilities in obtaining or maintaining employment. In counseling, I integrate creative interventions including poetry and music to elicit client’s themes within her/his story. I perceive that both pain and joy are components of the human condition, and my job as a counselor is to guide clients towards finding meaning within this dichotomy.
