I consider myself to be a relational and intuitive therapist with a warmth that provides safety within the therapeutic relationship. My background includes a variety of clinical settings including community mental health, school based work, Indian country, and private practice. In addition to client work, I have provided clinical supervision to master’s level candidates seeking to become LICSWs in Washington State. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including relationship issues, family stressors, perinatal mood disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma.

I specialize in working with children and teens ages 2-18 for defiance, trauma, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, child abuse, grief and loss and life adjustments. I provide highly effective research based counseling in a warm and inviting environment. I offer practical strategies and activities to help children, teens and families meet their goals and improve their lives. Modalities used include Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Triple P Parenting, Play Therapy, and Therapeutic Art Activities.

I hold a PhD in Counseling and am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Washington, providing both short-term and long-term individual psychotherapy to adolescents (over 13 years) and adults. I aim to provide a safe, supportive, self-reflective, and healing environment where we will work toward a deeper understanding and appreciation of your authentic self. Together we will strengthen your personal awareness and confidence by exploring, uncovering and sharing your personal truths, life experiences, losses, achievements, fears, goals, and dreams.

I love to work with supervisees and mentees (supervision of supervision) as we grow, laugh, and learn together. The process of deepening knowledge, experience, and wisdom can be rewarding for both the supervisor and supervisee. I approach supervision and mentorship from a structural supervision perspective as I believe we all thrive with the right balance of structure and support. I use a good amount of humor and curiosity in my approach, as I believe the elements of fun, delight, and joy are important parts of the professional growth process. Courageous You is based in Seattle Washington and is led by me, Sarah Wolfer; a licensed psychotherapist and ketamine-assisted therapist with training and lived experience around working with couples, queer folx, and non-monogamous humans. My life’s work is to provide safe spaces for queer and non-monogamous humans to explore their inner world and find the healing they need to live a fulfilling life. I use various therapeutic models I've learned over the last 12 years, including parts work, CBT, psychedelic-assisted therapy, the Gottman method, motivational interviewing, somatic healing, and trauma-informed care among others.

So many of us struggle to meet the demands of daily life, all while unmet needs and unresolved pain from the past keep us hurting and stuck. In my practice I specialize in Trauma, including PTSD and Complex Trauma. I bring a holistic approach to therapy, looking at how trauma and other life experiences impact the whole person, their emotions, thoughts, relationships and even how these experiences are held in the body. I believe it is also important to consider how oppression, based on various individual and group identities, impacts mental health.

I have an extensive background working with adults of all ages. I provide supervision for Master's level clinicians working towards licensure. In addition, I supervise for Geriatric Mental Health specialization. I am currently focusing on providing supervision for LICSW and LMHC licensure and supervision for GMHS. I have loved working with adults of any age as they've uncovered their strengths and worked towards their goals. I use this same approach for licensure supervision.

My training is in systems therapy, which examines the many facets of our lives interact. In therapy, we often look at how surrounding relationships and past experiences effect our current beliefs and values. If emotions and mood are difficult to manage, or there is difficulty adjusting to developmental and life stage changes, I offer support and tools to work through this. These challenges often arise for young adults, new mothers, managing intimate relationships and employment transitions. Too often, grief and loss bring up painful struggles for individuals and families. Therapy can be helpful in these most challenging times.

I enjoy working with Adolescents and Young adults struggling with body image, emotion regulation concerns, anxiety and depression. I also work with clients who struggle with low self-esteem, trauma and phase of life transitions. Clients who are open to learning new skills, process emotions and work through their eating disorder in order to focus on their career goals and achieve their true potential in life. I offer clinical supervision to associates in California and workshops and trainings on mental health.

I offer a client centered and holistic therapeutic approach that aims to bring to light the associations between: nutrition/diet; stress; family history; support systems & resources; life experiences; environment; and issues related to current and/or historical oppression; and how YOUR body, mind, and spirit have been reacting. I believe in encouraging and empowering my clients towards achieving the results they seek. I help clients identify and utilize their strengths and to identify and release unhealthy practices or defense mechanisms.

Counseling to help navigate life's storms for families, children and adults. I work with clients post divorce both in co-parent counseling and reunification. Parent/co-parent coaching, counseling, and support to parents, children, and teens in family transitions. I enjoy working to restore relationships through Reunification Therapy for parent and child. I also provide Counseling for those with depression, anxiety, trauma, and other life stressors, family conflict, improve self concept and decision-making. We will reduce symptoms and increase joy and peace.

A large part of why I have chosen to be a counselor is to simply help those in need.
