Anam Therapy Counseling, Inc is newly formed group practice. I have expanded my business in response to the growing need in our field. Please note, we are a TeleMH practice (online). I have spent the past 26+ years helping clients to lead happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. My goal is to provide a stress free, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel supported, comfortable, and free to express yourself.

I’m so glad you’re here. We all pursue therapy for different reasons. Sometimes we need an objective person to talk through our problems with, sometimes we are experiencing depression and anxiety and need help developing ways to manage and cope with symptoms, and other times we just need a safe space to be ourselves; but whatever brought you here I’m glad you are taking the first steps in seeking help. I know how scary and overwhelming life can feel sometimes. I am a big believer in the power of our thoughts. If we can learn to change or challenge our thoughts, we change how we feel and how we act.

My style is interactive, behavioral, and usually short-term. I'm curious about where and how clients get stuck in running their lives, solving their own problems. I focus on helping clients break dysfunctional patterns, take acceptable risks, and approach problems in a more flexible way. There's homework and new behaviors to try during the week. I have written 13 books on couple & family therapy, anxiety, depression & anger, brief therapy, clinical supervision, as well as over 300 articles. I write an online column for Psychology Today entitled Fixing Families and have provided trainings nationally.

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. In that time I have worked with men, women, teens, and families on a wide variety of issues. Sometimes that work simply involved helping them through a particular incident or life change that overwhelmed them. Other times our work together centered around longstanding issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. With years of both institutional and outpatient experience, I enjoy helping people move from a place they can no longer tolerate to a place where they feel more happy and effective. I also provide clinical supervision for LPC residents.

Dr. Villines is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. She received her doctorate degree in psychology (PsyD) in 2004 from the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C and completed pre- and postdoctoral training in community mental health centers and neuropsychological practices in the Washington, D.C. area. Dr. Villines conducts comprehensive neuropsychological assessments, evaluating individuals with complex medical, developmental, social-emotional, attentional, learning, and genetic related disorders.

I am Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 6 years experience in treating survivors of trauma due to interpersonal violence. I believe in an integrated approach with a focus on the therapeutic relationship that infuses EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and experiential modalities that focus on the mind/body connection. As a Black, female therapist, I got into this work to help people of all walks of life, especially women, children, and minorities. Therapy and case management is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client. As a counselor, I will be using an integrative approach incorporating many techniques from different theoretical approaches and using Narrative therapy, behavioral therapy, A.C.T, and person-centered therapy. Each client will be treated differently, ensuring that his or her goals are incorporated into the treatment process. Therapy will include some of the following: self-awareness techniques, relaxation techniques, behavioral modification, role-playing, journaling, psycho-education, and identifying and incorporating new coping skills.

I am currently a resident in counseling working towards LPC licensure under supervision. I believe the root of the therapeutic process lies within the relationship not only between the client and their counselor, but the relationship to self. One of my favorite quotes by Yogi Bhajan reads "You are very powerful, provided you know how powerful you are." It is also a passion of mine to guide clients in meaning-making. My passion for meaning-making therapy is well summarized by late psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl, "Those who have 'why' to live can bear with almost any 'how'."

Khadijah is an independent supervisor that is Board Approved with over 15 years of clinical experience in child and adolescent mental health and substance use disorders. Khadijah is a subject matter expert in trauma and published author of the book REAL, a memoir of childhood trauma and the role of healers in our systems of care. Khadijah continues to provide consultation and clinical training that addressing cultural bias and dually diagnosed treatment throughout the state of Virginia.
