My focus is to help youth and teens uncover what they already possess--highlighting their strengths, resilience, and ability to cope with life. Together, your child, your family, and I will work to make sense of troubling experiences and identify and learn coping strategies that allow my clients to realize the power they have in themselves. Using play based interventions, children can communicate their inner world in a way that is natural and feels comfortable to them. Using sand tray, expressive arts, and games, play provides a concrete, action-oriented way for children to work through what they are going through.

Over half of my work is with couples. Through training and supervision in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), I can see and hear needs and feelings long hidden for fear of being hurt again. I empathize and acknowledge real wrongs and real emotional damage to trust and respect. I hear both sides. I also offer hope. I can see when marital conflict itself offers evidence that partners still desire and need each other. I know how difficult a process forgiveness and then trust building really are. Slowly, when even one is ready to love again, I equip both to express their hearts with a gentle strength, and to hear with compassion.

I have specialized training in traumatic stress and addiction and use an attachment focused perspective taking special care to understand present difficulties in the context of early relational experiences. As a therapist I believe that symptoms resulting from stressful life experiences can be treated using validated scientific interventions. Addiction can often accompany traumatic stress. In an effort to cope, individuals frequently find themselves trapped by the comforting yet costly effects of addictive or compulsive behaviors.

A basic theme in behavior can be viewed as a directional thought process. If we think it, believe it, we can become it. This thought process can apply to how one handles a problem. There are times that problems interfere with daily life in such a way that it grows into an overwhelming place of emotional discord in our personal and/or professional lives. Stress, anxiety, depression, and premarital/marital issues can be metaphorically high on the Richter scale for mental health therapy. These factors can also be connected to deeper issues related to human behavior. Welcome services are provided for individuals, couples, and families.
