I can help you to learn new ways of thinking and behaving to create measurable and sustainable impact. That impact may be on daily living, and it also may move you further toward achieving your major life goals and dreams.

My primary focus areas include (1) individuals dealing with complex trauma and PTSD; and (2) individuals with serious mental illness who want to cope more effectively in daily life. In addition to private therapy, no-cost community support groups and educational classes are available.

Teletherapy is available in Arizona and California where I am licensed. The Tucson office is located close to the University of Arizona. Appointments hours are Monday - Friday 11:00 am - 5:00 pm. My approach is integrative. I often begin with CBT to understand how you respond to issues in your life. DBT strengthens emotion management skills and helps to improve relationships. We might use psychodynamic or trauma-informed therapy to address the impact of the family of origin and early emotional wounds. Problem-solving approaches can also help to develop solutions for specific changes.

Introduction to DBT Class - Online Only

This no-cost community education class provides an overview of Dialectical Behavior Theory and Therapy (DBT) and offers a safe space to learn and practice basic skills. The class runs for 8 sessions, 90 minutes each. It is open to adults 18 and older. Topics cover cover the 4 elements of DBT: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Each class is structured to provide a lecture and time for personal sharing about applying new skills. Classes are scheduled when at least 4 individuals have registered; thus, the schedule is variable as to when any class starts.

Social and cultural factors, safety planning, and helpful resources are addressed in the 8-week class. Each 90-minute session is structured to support lecture and time for personal sharing.
