Whether you are new to therapy and curious about how therapy can benefit you, or are returning to healing, I am here to help. All that is needed to start this process is a willingness to be curious about your life, which is the first step to initiating the changes you would like to make.

As a therapist, my passion is helping clients develop a greater ability to understand themselves and handle what happens to them. I use an integrative approach which is grounded in research and shows that the most effective healing occurs in the context of a strong client-therapist relationship. Beginning therapy can be intimidating so I try to create a warm, safe space by using an empathic, nonjudgmental, and, at times, humorous approach. Clients have described my style as compassionate and supportive while also being honest and direct.

I am dedicated to helping each individual, couple or family find the keys to a happier and more satisfying life. To this end, I make a special effort to understand each person's dilemmas and what it would take to help them increase their experiences of joy and pleasure in their personal lives, one moment at a time. As the sources of pain emerge in therapy, I include each person's needs in the search for steps forward. My practice includes many individuals and couples who suffer from depression, anxiety, relationship distress, sexual dissatisfaction and the effects of past trauma.

I enjoy combining the Mind Body Soul connection in therapy to create balance in all areas. We often focus on our thoughts and actions and forget about our body and spiritual components. Being able to integrate all aspects of ourselves leads to greater healing especially if we have experienced trauma. Reconnection to the body is an important part of healing and learning to listen to what is is telling us. Spirituality is one aspect of therapy I enjoy most and helping others find their spiritual center along with aiding those who feel "highly sensitive" (empathic) in being able to function and thrive.

You want something different, but it’s hard to motivate and place what that really is. You are sensitive, creative, queer, thoughtful, and full of so many thoughts. You likely have a habit of overextending yourself in the hopes of finding where you feel you belong. You see patterns in your relationships that you want to examine and change, and some part of you knows that you deserve a more satisfying life. Therapy is a non-judgmental space in which you can overcome familiar patterns by being witnessed and heard, and acquire tools to improve your relationship with yourself and others.

The human experience is complex and layered. It is often taken for granted and underestimated. In our profession, it is a privilege to have access to such complexities; a privilege to witness the moment when despair transforms into hope and futility no longer exists. Humans are vast and exploration is limitless. As a psychologist, I would be remiss by engaging my work without intentionality, humility, and culturally appropriate care. As someone with marginalized identities, I find value in reflecting in the moment with clients. I use a multicultural counseling model to address the unique needs of clients of color and LGBTQ+ folks.

Welcome! You are taking a brave step toward moving forward by coming here. I work with individuals of diverse identities with any amount of desire to understand their true selves by healing and growing. We all experience shades of anxiety and depression, some feel it stronger than others. Some folks want change through learning skills. Others appreciate an accepting, safe space that challenges them while also providing objectivity and empathetic support. Some are still unsure why they're even thinking about starting therapy, and yet still have the willingness to show up. Most of the time, it's a mixture of all 3.

As a trauma-informed counselor, I clinically treat the client's symptoms with a talk-and-body therapeutic approach. I teach my clients coping strategies that are tweaked to be adaptive to the ASD/ADHD child/adult's neurodiversity in addition to the neurotypical populations' symptoms/sensory intrusions that are known or unknown reason(s) for the client's behavior(s) like anxiety mismanagement or a spontaneous violent outburst that at any age often do self-sabotage one's hoped for a good outcome(s).

Let’s admit it, life is hard, and with these difficulties come suffering. Seeking counseling for this suffering is sometimes a very scary and difficult endeavor. I admire your bravery in seeking help, and pride myself on providing a non-judgmental, accepting, and comfortable space to explore and work on these struggles together. I offer mindfulness and body-based holistic psychotherapy to adults and adolescents across a wide range of presenting concerns. I blend several modalities together in my work as a therapist: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Hakomi, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, and Existential.

I am dedicated to helping people overcome their struggles and become more connected with themselves and others. I've worked in Human Services since 1995 and have been a Mental Health Therapist since 2002. My training includes many modalities but what I find to be the important is understanding where people are in their lives through actively listening to people's experience, being supportive and identifying what works best for each person. This creates a safe environment where people feel heard, accepted and validated..

“Self-awareness is the ability to take an honest look at your life without any attachment to it being right or wrong, good or bad.” – Debbie Ford. With the acceptance of what cannot be changed, there comes peace. If you are struggling with your past, present, or future; learn how your thoughts and feelings can affect your behaviors. Looking at yourself with unconditional love, self-compassion, and forgiveness can allow you to heal past wounds and move forward.

At a time of unprecedented mental health crisis, there is hope in new approaches that integrate ancient wisdom with modern advances. We have the capacity to create new realities when we understand the nature of our own patterns of thought and behavior. This consciousness is the first step toward healing. Contemplative psychotherapy enables introspective awareness of mental processes and behavior and is a necessary pre-requisite for effective self-regulation.

You know that, “whatever this is…isn’t working for me!”, to quote one of my favorite comedies. Sometimes that is all you know. You know that you need and want to change the things that are no longer working for you but have no idea where to begin or who to trust with your story. The overwhelm of where to go and who to talk to can keep you stuck. But then as they say, if nothing changes, nothing changes and that causes fear. Or, one can get so comfortable being uncomfortable that it is where they stay. Allow yourself the opportunity to connect to yourself and others, living your life in a whole new way, with peace and joy.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
