My name is Tatiana Wilson, LMHC. My clinical approach is CBT. I have experience with crisis intervention & trauma, as well as mood disorders. My most common theoretical orientations are CBT & DBT. If you are looking to find a therapist who will provide you with a safe, warm, and welcoming space; where you can discuss about your emotional, social, and interpersonal struggles in a non-judgmental manner; and embark on your journey to growth, healing, and recovery, I would be more than honored to assist you in this process. Asking for help is not always easy, but doing so is the first step toward feeling better.

I work well with clients who are ready to deal actively with their issues and see real progress. Whether with individuals, couples, families or as a leader of group therapy, I combine psychoeducation and an eclectic mix of techniques from traditional talk therapy, psychodrama, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and mind-body techniques. My practice has been primarily virtual since the pandemic, but I am starting to see clients in person on Wednesdays. Please inquire!

My passion lies in working with individuals who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness. My work as a psychiatric social worker has influenced my strong belief in the power of talk therapy within the world of psychiatry and mental health as a complement to other treatments. While medications can treat symptoms, processing past experiences can really help address the underlying issues that may be contributing to the symptoms. As your therapist, I want to dig down there with you to understand how past experiences are impacting you now and explore strategies we can put in place to help you move toward your future.

At times it may seem as if we're at odds with our mind. The thoughts and feelings we experience seem overwhelming. We can convince ourselves we're undeserving of contentment, love, happiness, success, acceptance, etc. Where does that come from and why is it so easy to believe? For those of us in the LGBTQIA+ community, there are added layers we need to work through, making it difficult for us to thrive. Therapy can play a meaningful role by providing a space to work through the layers, confront our hurtful thoughts and feelings, unburden ourselves of the past, and truly learn to thrive.

I specialize in working with trans and queer-identifying individuals, couples, and families on issues pertaining to trauma, identity, self-esteem, relationship and communication issues, and chronic pain/disease. My clients have realized that there were issues in their life they would like to work through, but may not be able to yet fully understand the root causes and the extent of the impact of their issues. They also generally approach therapy with an understanding that often times our issues are directly related to capitalism and intersectional systems of oppression.

LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE! A phrase we often hear but seldom get to experience fully. And why? Because oftentimes people are going through life SURVIVING instead of truly LIVING. We make choices out of fear instead of love. When we are in SURVIVAL mode, we think only to stabilize ourselves in the moment. We may feel anxious, depressed, angry, or burnout. We may struggle with isolation, substance misuse, relationships, or risky behavior. In LIVING mode we are able to regulate our emotions appropriately, communicate effectively with others, maintain boundaries, practice self care, feel safe in our own body and THRIVE.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over a dacade of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I make sure that all my time with clients feels genuine and personable. I find it a lot easier, and frankly more fun, when you can enjoy talking with your therapist, and the mental health work doesn’t feel like a chore. I primarily work from systemic theories, and incorporate solution-focused work into my practice. After a thorough exploration of presenting issues, I aim to set clear goals for therapy in the initial sessions. I find it is important to evolve solution attempts to get change started.

You may be in a place in your life where you have noticed patterns of behavior that you would benefit from changing. You may have contemplated these areas and feel like you have an understanding of when these issues arise and what has caused them, but are unsure of what you can do to address them. Perhaps you’ve found it difficult to communicate your wants and needs in certain situations. Or maybe you’ve realized that your methods of coping are neither the healthiest nor most helpful for dealing with distress. You may have even noticed that your relationships have fit into a pattern that you are now unhappy with.

As a Black, queer, Caribbean/LatinX individual who practices therapy from a non-oppressive and radically authentic lens I draw on over ten years of experience working with women, children and communities of color around topics of equity, sexuality, education, LGBTQ+, and trauma. I use my knowledge and background to analyze issues with a strong understanding of the systems, personal history and survival skills that influence your identity today. I am interested in understanding 'personal language' (emotions and perspective) to address the current design of your relationships and encourage transformations better suited for your goals

Hi, my name is Skye, I'm an LCSW practicing in New York and I've been in the field for around 6 years collectively. I believe that therapy is a helpful tool for many, but beginning the search for a therapist takes effort and strength. When it comes to my work with clients, my approach is largely intuitive and collaborative. I like to leave space for both joy and difficult emotions. The human experience can be extremely tough to navigate, and showing up authentically to support this process as therapist is important to me. I'm eager to learn about you and integrate approaches and evidenced-based tools that might fit your needs best.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
