I have helped countless clients learn life changing skills to master their anxiety, depression, self-harming, suicidal ideations, peer conflict, and negative self-talk.
Are you a parent who’s child is struggling with emotion regulation, impulse control, and tolerating distress? Are you a parent of a teen who is struggling with motivation, self-care, and self-esteem? Are you a young adult who is tired of the same “type” of therapy over and over and nothing seems to work? Are you struggling with debilitating anxiety, low self-confidence, social drama, or negative coping skills that get in the way of your goals? Do you have a busy schedule and wish you didn’t always need to leave the house to work on building a life worth living?

Imagine the opportunity to form a relationship with an individual who can provide unconditional positive regard, empathetic understanding, and congruence. I use a non-authoritative approach to talk therapy in order to facilitate self-discovery, self-acceptance, and healing/positive growth. I believe that all of us have the power to find the best solutions for ourselves and make positive changes in our lives. I often incorporate a modified form of cognitive therapy that encompasses mindfulness practices such as meditation.

I believe that we all want to feel heard and understood, and experience feeling whole. These longings are inherent to the human experience. Therapy is an opportunity for me to partner with you to co-create a space that allows for this process to occur. My journey as a social worker started when I was in my 20’s and I have spent much of my life in the helper role. Personally/professionally, I have met all kinds of people, and experienced many circumstances, which have led me to develop strong therapeutic connections with individuals and families. I am non-judgmental and strength-focused, which allows for a safe space during therapy.

I have been privileged to work with adolescents, their families and adults for almost a decade. While my background is in clinical and counseling psychology, I recognize that the dynamics of every situation is unique. I work to appreciate every client, their difficulties, and, importantly, their strengths. I strive to create a supportive space through self-exploration and healing.

"When there are no enemies within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you". ~ancient African proverb~ So many suffer everyday in silence because of their own negative inner voice. Whether you are struggling due to anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, loss, or for any other reason, know that you do not have to suffer forever and that change is possible. I work with children, adolescents, adults and families helping each to bring their strengths into focus and harmony back into their family lives.

Families are a good source of strength but they can also get stuck in unproductive patterns of behavior and interaction which are challenging to change. I help families break these difficult cycles by working with them to identify goals and establish plans and milestones to achieve them. I apply over 25 years of experience as I empower struggling individuals, couples, and families facing marital issues, divorce, anxiety, depression, and children/adolescents with self-destructive behaviors or ADD/ADHD as well as many other mental health issues. I also specialize in working with diagnoses of oppositional defiant and conduct disorders.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
