Clients discover their identity, as I mine hearts to find/extract the ore treasured within. Raised on a cattle ranch: I am practical, hard working and love the outdoors. My joy is to help the afflicted , the broken hearted and proclaim liberty to captives. I love using metaphor to clarify vision/focus around personal and crisis issures. Now accepting new clients. When we face challenges in life, we go to what has worked in the past. We distract ourselves, distance ourselves, or self-medicate with food, relationships, substances and more. At some point, these methods do more harm than good. Let's work together to identify the ways you cope and find better options. I will create a comfortable and safe environment free from judgment that encourages self-discovery. I have experience helping people with trauma, relationships, self-esteem, body image, substance use, anxiety, depression, OCD, binge eating disorder, suicidal thoughts and more.

Your session time is your time to work through anything you want, at your own pace, without judgement. We all walk a unique path in this life and I will always support your individuality and what you want your life to look like, regardless of societal ideas of what that should be. I absolutely love celebrating successes with those I work with, and I enjoy seeing people’s faces light up with pride in their achievements. Seeing a person grow before your eyes is an amazing thing. That said, everything isn’t always rainbows.

I work with children and teens providing a safe space to process traumatic events, explore emotions and build self esteem. Working to create a positive therapeutic relationship is the goal with every client that steps into my office. I work with children who struggle to self-regulate, are unsure of how to express their emotions in a healthy way, or those who have experienced some type of trauma. I also utilize body-based trauma processing skills with teens and young adults who have experienced traumatic events.

There is no shame in the struggles of this life. It's Ok to not be Ok. Maybe you aren't even sure how you ended up here. Healing and growth can look different for different people. Together we will figure out what that looks like for you. And we will move at your pace. I believe that you can make positive changes at any point, no matter what you did or what was done to you. What is shared in counseling is confidential, sacred and empowering.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
