Cultivating joy and healthy habits requires creating a consistent space to practice and learn new ways of being. Did you know your mind is more wired to produce anxiety and depression than joy? There is nothing wrong with you! You just didn't learn the skills that generate more joy, calm and acceptance; this is what leads to long-term fulfillment and happiness. Burnout, abandoning your dreams, anxiety, overwhelm, feeling lost, an extra glass of wine-all can lead to a vicious cycle of not feeling good. I can help you break that cycle. Integrating the body, breath practices, and neuroscience into therapy helps bring lasting changes.

I have recently sold Shoreline and am going back to my roots and passion for providing direct clinical care via teletherapy. Everyone experiences difficulties in life and there is no time like the present to find help supporting the emotional weight you may be feeling. Whether it is the pandemic, the economy, or your personal experiences, external situations can have a serious impact on your internal self. By working as a team, my goal is to help you explore the reasons why you have these negative emotions and begin the process of lessening the impact they are having on your life. Emotional Regulation has been made harder through the current cultural climate and my hope is that together we can make your ability to feel at peace with yourself a reality.

If you believe that knowing yourself in a deep way can open up potential space for repair and healing, I could be the right therapist for you. There is so much to grieve and love in this world of ours: our personal stories and family histories, the troubles of loved ones, our social and political pain, and the crisis facing our planet. Many people who seek mental health services struggle to find a clinician who is both personable and effective. The most important factor in therapeutic success is the therapeutic relationship. I am not the right fit for everyone, but finding the right professional is key. My work includes working with difficult to treat individuals as well as those who have experienced previous treatment failures. I am also a forensic psychologist and conduct evaluations of individuals involved with the legal system and often provide expert testimony. If you think I might be able to help you achieve your therapeutic goals, please contact me.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
