I love working with people struggeling with inner conflict and people looking for answers. This group includes families, couples, individuals, and teens. I have found people have their own answers; my role is to be a catalyst. My approach is client centered, we will together discover what you need and how to get there. My training includes family systems, brief therapy, and hypnosis and I use an eclectic combination of therapy modalities indicated by your needs and your personality. I am a strong proponent of natural methods of healing. I want you to remember you have the answers because you know best what it is that you want.

When looking for a therapist, it's important that we find someone who we believe can help us. We need someone we feel comfortable with, and someone we can trust. When I work with my clients within this framework and with these foundations, they are able to set and reach goals to fulfill dreams and find their meaning and purpose in life. In my practice, I work with clients struggling with mood disorders, substance abuse, personality disorders, and relationship problems. I believe in aligning our thoughts, emotions, words, behavior, and spirit in order to see our path laid out before us with clarity.

Have you ever wondered why psychotherapy fails? Have you or a family member suffered from an injury that impacts the way your brain functions? Do you or your child have problems academically or socially? If your brain is damaged, it's hard to learn new skills and function in the world. One way to correct these problems is with neurotherapy. I am an expert in neurotherpy and have been practicing in the field since 1987.

When working with a client, I find it most important to create an "emotional safe space" where one feels comfortable to openly express and is able to feel truly heard and understood. My overall approach focuses on helping one strengthen one's own relationship with them self via self compassion and self kindness. It is my experience that this is the most effective way to find clarity and balance in one's relationships, work and overall ability to feel unconditionally comfortable with oneself. It means nourishing your mind, body and soul by having the kindest thoughts about yourself, caring for your body and finding your own unique spiritual connection between you and life. When we focus on our own "wholeness" we are able to find peace and able to give more to our relationships and to our dreams.

TEENS - your happy outgoing child has been replaced by a secretive/withdrawn, irritable/defiant teenager, creating worry, anxiety, chaos. You find yourself reacting to your teen, rather than enjoying a happy family. You've tried everything - bribery, setting boundaries, making demands, hurling threats. It's only gotten worse. Worried over the cause of your teen's change - addiction, (alcohol or drug abuse), ADD/ADHD, body image/self esteem issues (anorexia, bulimia, cutting, weight) bullying, maybe your pending divorce...anxiety, depression, school, suicide attempts, suicide of a friend or family member...

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
