We all experience unwanted circumstances, emotions, and addictions that are difficult to handle alone. What has been harmed in relationship with others must be healed with relationship. That's where I come in. I will come alongside you or your child and help you where you're at. I will help you gain insight and provide you with the skills to help you with your problem.

With each stage in life, we are faced with new challenges. Sometimes new challenges may be too difficult to deal with alone and other times, we carry old problems with us. In order to live a happier, healthier life, we need to address those problems head on. With years of experience as a high school teacher and now as a counselor, I have experience working with adolescent problems, divorce or separation, foster and adoption, loss, cultural challenges, and coping skills. I have worked with clients that only speak Spanish and am accepting of all sexual orientations. My goal is to provide a safe, judgement-free space for you.

I also have five years experience as an employee assistance program clinician and brief problem focused therapy.

Play is the place where children’s minds, hearts, and souls meet. Through Play Therapy, children are able to heal from distressing events such as, but not limited to, trauma, grief and loss, divorce, depression, adoption, foster care and attachment issues; and to improve in myriad areas such as impulse control, emotional regulation, ADHD, OCD, and ODD. After earning her MSW at University of Missouri, Kansas City in 2010 as a Jewish Heritage-Hartford Fellow, she worked with adults, older adults and families in various settings. Work in community, health care and acute psychiatric care settings have provided Deborah with a broad perspective on the issues of aging and supporting aging parents, coping with chronic illness, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief and loss. She is available to provide ongoing addiction therapy to persons who have completed a detox program.

I'm currently accepting new clients for in-person and virtual sessions! I believe that the most important part of therapy is the relationship between the client and therapist. My primary objective as your therapist is to cultivate a trusting relationship with you, fostering an environment where you can freely, securely express yourself, especially on sensitive and more challenging topics within your life. Kenya Hicks is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is a graduate of the University of Missouri Kansas City with a Master’s Degree in Social Worker. Mrs. Hicks has experience in treating childhood trauma. She has over 15 years’ experience working with children, families and individuals as a Trauma Clinician. She provides early intervention or crisis management services to help stabilize individuals and families in need.

I can provide a safe space to talk through your big life transitions and stressful situations. If you are struggling with a rough patch in a relationship or needing to find yourself again, we can work together to reach your goals. Have you experienced trauma and are unsure how to move forward past difficult parts in your life? We can work together to figure out those triggers and move forward healing from those traumatic events.
