If you're feeling overwhelmed scrolling through profiles or wondering if you are even ready to go to therapy anyway, you're not alone. I know from experience both as the therapist and as the client that making the decision to go to therapy & setting up that first appointment is often the hardest part. I hope that you're proud of yourself for taking that step & making it here. My goal is to connect personally with each client so that we can work collaboratively to identify problems and goals and create a plan for treatment.

Are you overwhelmed, anxious, sad or feel like you're not sure how to navigate a new territory of your life? Do you need help in setting healthy boundaries or coping with stress, anxiety? Or perhaps a past trauma is beginning to surface? I truly believe our darkest wounds lose power and we begin to heal when we shed light on them. My goal is to provide support and insight to help you identify your own strengths and get your life back on track with appropriate coping strategies and perhaps new boundaries.

We are not here on this Earth to live life day to day, to go through the daily grind of life just getting by. Life is not about surviving, it is about living and thriving. Many years of just surviving can lead to feeling empty and drained. This can bring about depression, anxiety, addictions, and a missing sense of purpose in life. Finding who we are and our purpose can transform us into truly living life for the first time or once again. My goal is to create a space for you to develop awareness, find your purpose, and discover how you can live that out daily. I look forward to walking alongside you to explore your unique purpose.

I do not believe in the statement "my past does not define me." It absolutely does! Everything you have experienced, both good and bad, is the reason why you are who you are today. Every single choice you make is made through the lenses of your life experiences. We run from labels that have been forced on us and grasp for ones that make us feel more... What would happen if you embraced your true self, who you really are inside and out, the good and the bad. Then sorted out your past to the best of its ability and took it from there day by day in the present for your future? I would be honored to walk this journey with you!

I am a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in working with children and adolescents. I also work with adults. While post-graduate training, and teaching, have increased my skills, what makes me a good therapist are the beliefs I hold dear. I believe in people and their ability to heal and thrive. I believe that the connection I have with my clients not only allows them to open up to me, but others as well. Most importantly, I believe that working with others is a tremendous responsibility and a sacred trust. It is an honor I never take lightly.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
