Do you find yourself struggling in your relationships, feelings of self-worth, anxiety or fulfillment in life? If so, you are not alone. Many people experience these same feelings. Maybe, logically you feel you are enough but emotionally you are not convinced that you are lovable, smart, interesting or attractive enough. Our early experiences and relationships in life become the blueprint for how we feel about ourselves, other people and the world around us. Humans are complex. We are made of many different pieces, similar to a puzzle. I refer to these pieces as our different "modes".

I work best with individuals who feel drawn to discover their purpose in life, and value having a deep and steady awareness of self. Usually these are people who take things on themselves and may have been putting off therapy. Maybe you're burned out on trying to find the answers on your own. Or perhaps there's a particular challenge you just can't get past, such as an addiction, a toxic relationship or job, depression or fear towards the future.

My social services experience of over nine years has extended from seniors then into substance use and behavioral mental health for teenagers, young adults and couples.
Often people feel overwhelmed by their life, circumstances, and relationships. This can be from the cumulative effects of numerous, minor life events to a single, major traumatic life experience. Individually, we may not know where to go or which way to turn. Collaboratively, we can work through the confusion, feelings of helplessness, anxiety and depression to realize your inherent strengths, while providing new resources and tools to find or return to your chosen life path. Using evidence-based practices, we will work together toward your behavioral health goals, personal independence and wellbeing. Success is enjoying life.

I can help with issues like substance use, divorce, trauma, grief, anger, anxiety, depression, and veteran issues.
When a man needs to fix a car, he finds the right tools. But when a man is feeling unwell on the inside, our society says, 'Man up!' – which is never the answer. Men by nature are problem-solvers, but without the right coping tools, you might be stuck. Shame or pride can hold you back, but don’t let it. Most of the men I work with say going to therapy was the best decision they made to truly solve problems, restore hope, and reclaim their lives. Let me help you to drive your relationships toward intention, passion and purpose.

Additionally, I hold an ICAADC, allowing me to provide substance use treatment.
To say that life is hard is an understatement. There is no shortage of challenges that often lead to us feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, down, anxious, or hopeless. When these difficult emotions occur, we are often vulnerable to engaging in behaviors or making decisions that are not in line with the person we wish to be. Therapy helps provide the tools you need to thrive (or, in some circumstances, survive) and offers a space where you will be accepted, supported, and empowered. Therapy also aids in better self-understanding, enabling you to remain present amidst tough emotions while fostering more positive ones.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
