For 14 years, I have been helping individuals improve their overall sense of wellbeing, working through a range of subject areas such as depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship stressors, and substance use recovery.
Life is complicated. Working through current stressors, past experiences, and everything in between by yourself can be challenging. This is where therapy can help. Having someone to aid you in processing through life's difficulties can make all the difference. Through a combination of evidence-based practices, education, implementation of coping skills, and processing, I provide people a time and a place to focus on themselves. In our sessions we will explore your concerns and better understand ways to move forward. Whether it is your first session or your hundredth, we will identify a plan tailored to your specific needs.

As a therapist I specialize in Substance Use, Anxiety, Identity development and Couple’s Therapy. Trauma from your past creates messages that can have an impact on how you view yourself. Some of those messages create habits and coping mechanisms that can have negative consequences, consequences that inhibit you from knowing the goodness that lies deep within you. Knowing your inherent goodness gives you the framework and foundation to tackle the tougher issues and is an indispensable starting point for your healing journey.

If you're experiencing anxiety, depression, and burn-out, and looking for a different approach to therapy you've come to the right place. My name is Kate, and I practice body-based psychotherapy. This means that we approach your healing from both the top-down, traditional methods of processing your issues through talk therapy, as well as the bottom-up approach of releasing body held trauma and stuck emotions through breathwork and movement. I offer unique sessions that combine talk, breathwork, meditation, and movement.

I eagerly await to hear your story. Within many of our stories is something that becomes overwhelming. This begins to weigh us down and hinders our quality of life. When you share that something with me, we will find something to do about it. You've already done a considerable amount of work up until this point; its time to share some of that load.

Additionally, I hold an ICAADC, allowing me to provide substance use treatment.
To say that life is hard is an understatement. There is no shortage of challenges that often lead to us feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, down, anxious, or hopeless. When these difficult emotions occur, we are often vulnerable to engaging in behaviors or making decisions that are not in line with the person we wish to be. Therapy helps provide the tools you need to thrive (or, in some circumstances, survive) and offers a space where you will be accepted, supported, and empowered. Therapy also aids in better self-understanding, enabling you to remain present amidst tough emotions while fostering more positive ones.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
