I have experience with anxiety, depression, couple/family/relationship issues, PTSD, substance use, personality disorders, minority stress, spiritual/religious/existential issues, anger management, and co-parenting.
Many come to therapy knowing only that they are struggling to get things done, their relationships have become a source of stress rather than comfort, or they need help processing trauma, loss, or other painful experiences impacting their daily lives. Whatever your circumstances, I strive to help each person or family I work with achieve greater emotional, psychological, and social well-being, while also alleviating symptoms. I use the power of storytelling and understand that each person I work with has many, important stories to tell. I also value and work with each person's nervous system in the healing process.

I have a passion for working with teens, young adults, and adults who struggle with anxiety spectrum disorders (including OCD), perfectionism, SI, self-injurious behavior, substance use, depression, relationship difficulties, and who want to build a life worth living.
Does it feel like anxiety or other emotions hold you hostage? Or do you, your teen, or your college-aged child struggle to make sense of your emotions or feel like emotions (or running from emotions) drive your decisions? Emotions are beautiful and challenging, and I love helping teens, young adults, and adults navigate the storm. I completed my post-doc training at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School in the 3East Intensive Program providing adherent DBT therapy to adolescents. I have experience in a range of settings including community mental health, IOP, PHP, and Residential Treatment.

I am a person-centered and motivational therapist that offers services for people managing anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-esteem, stress management, grief and loss, trauma, substance use and support of a family member, significant life events/transitions, emotional and behavioral health issues, and general life adjustments and changes.
You have the ability to heal and transform your life. Let me help you dictate a direction for change, understand the steps in preparing for the necessary action needed, and formulate a plan to heal your pain and transform your life. Therapy allows you to experience positive change which you gradually take away at the end of each session, then incorporate it from day to day. My own personal healing and transformation became the essence for becoming a counselor, and I would enjoy helping you identify those barriers in reaching your goals, and manifest success. Services accommodate residents from both states of Maine & Massachusetts.

Life is never straightforward, and we are often left facing changes that are both surprising and difficult to navigate. Our shift into a new role, a disappointment at work, a problem in a relationship can cause us to feel anxious, angry, sad, and confused. We try our best to manage these struggles and their resulting shifts in mood and achievement, sometimes using coping strategies that turn out to be more problematic than helpful. We are left thinking, what happened? Will I ever feel like my old self? Why can't I just get over this?

I offer a co-ed Relationship Group. Feel free to inquire more about how this kind of therapy can be quite useful. I do Individual, Couples, Family, and Group Therapy. I currently facilitate a Bereavement Group which meets at my Brookline office every Saturday from 2-4pm. I also run groups for substance abuse, depression and anxiety. In addition, I have a lot of experience counseling children of all ages. I am a firm believer in strength-based psychotherapy.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
