¡Hola! My name is Lupe Blanco, I am a Bilingual, English/Spanish, Licensed Social Worker (LSW). I am a proud Latina, bridging the gap for access to culturally informed mental health services within our communities of color. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services. I believe that at the core of a healthy therapeutic relationship acknowledging myself as a human first and a therapist second plays a key role. I take steps to create a safe space for clients to show up as their true authentic selves and feel comfortable opening up about their experiences.

For 25 years, I have practiced in the fields of severe and persistent mental health, substance use disorders and crisis intervention.
My outlook on life is that we are all on a journey. Some people move faster than others. Some need a helping hand along the way; but we can all arrive to where we are going, where we want to be…every single one of us. I am here to help motivate when you lack motivation. I am here to listen when you feel unheard. I am here to push when you feel weak, or pull when you don’t feel strong enough. I’m also here to sit with you when you aren’t ready or feel unable to make a decision. I am here at your pace.

I have extensive experience working with those who struggle with substance use/abuse, anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, and self-esteem.
Everyone experiences difficulties throughout their lives and often times it is hard to ask for help. I approach therapy from an insight-orientated perspective which allows each client to discover their own path to healing while being guided and encouraged through goal setting, validation, and accountability. My ideal clients are those that like to be challenged and strive for long-standing changes in their lives, but also understand that therapy is a process and takes time.

I work with adolescence and adults as they navigate life with generalized anxiety, panic disorder, depression, substance use/addiction, and ADHD.
The ups and downs of everyday life can not only cause you uncertainty and exhaustion but can also make individuals feel stuck with what to do next. This can lead to us doubting our self-worth and our ability to live a more fulfilling life. As a therapist, I am here to meet you where you are at in this moment. I want to lend you a listening ear and provide you comfort in knowing that you have my full support. Any consistent nervousness or doubts will be met with kindness and patience as we work together to help navigate how to make your life more enjoyable.

It’s okay to not be okay. I’m here to meet you where you are and work together to get you where you want to be. I offer a warm, safe environment where you will not feel judged. I love being a therapist. I am passionate about mental health and love to help people become happier, healthier, and more connected. Over and over, I’ve seen the power of therapy to transform lives. I believe that by treating my clients with the greatest compassion and understanding, I model for them a better way to treat themselves. I show them what it feels like to be accepted for the things they thought were unacceptable.

Accepting new/ tele-health clients!! Welcome, simply arriving on this site suggests you have moved forward on your journey to health and wellness. I have been counseling clients for over 20 years and have found that making this initial outreach is often the biggest hurdle. Many of the individuals I work with have experienced depression or anxiety and many have found that substance use, once a form of 'decompression', has in fact compounded their struggle. This does not need to be your 'new' or 'permanant normal.'

I have a strong background of working with those that struggle with substance use dependency, depression, anxiety, and individuals with active or worsening trauma symptoms.
For most people, we often find ourselves stuck in patterns, overwhelmed with circumstances and life can be unfair at the worst times. Life has a lot of metaphors for journeys because of how much they shape and twist around us, we can still get lost on the path forward. I believe that by building awareness in our behaviors, identity, emotions, social connections and past, will give you the best road map to really understand what is best for you. By acknowledging each client's unique background and identity (personality, goals, passions) I can create a strong and tailored treatment plan for their possible symptoms and concerns.

I am especially interested in working with adolescents and young adults who are experiencing difficulties related to issues such as life transitions, substance use, anxiety and/or depression, ADHD, academic concerns and relationship issues.
I strongly believe each of us has the ability to heal and grow, thereby creating a life in which we experience an inner sense of wellbeing, while being fulfilled and engaged in all that we do. As a therapist, I provide individuals with the nonjudgemental and respectful space one needs to discover and better understand the totality of who they are. Within the therapeutic relationship, I support and empower clients to discover their potential and to find ways to create healthy and positive life changes. My approach is relational and insight-oriented, while also focusing on practical tools to meet life's challenges.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
