As a therapist, my mission is to provide a compassionate and non-judgmental relational context so that I can help my clients in the resolution of their profound sense of loneliness and feelings that "no one can understand their pain". Within the therapeutic relationship, I can help my clients in reviewing and correcting maladaptive strategies of self-protection, and in finding ways to feel safe in a world that feels unsafe. I believe therapy can help immensely in resolving emotional self-isolation, and in reconnecting with the resilience, potential, and motivation necessary to work at, and achieve personal aspirations.

I began my work in behavioral health nearly eight years ago where I discovered my passion in working with individuals on your therapeutic journey. Over the past eight years my specialization has included trauma, individual, group and family therapies, substance use with both adolescents and adults, residential treatment settings, intensive outpatient settings, and general mental health. This background has given me a wide array of insight to approaches and resources available to help you in your journey.

I have been working in my field of clinical psychotherapy for well over a decade, and I am licensed in 3 states (Arizona, Nevada & Texas). I am passionate about addressing clients' dysfunctional relationships with themselves, others or even a substance, and TRULY understand the impact those dysfunctions have on the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks, maintain a job, maintain proper self-care and the erosion of peace and stability that becomes seemingly unattainable. I roll up my sleeves with you, unravel the chaos, help to clear your filter, tweak and reframe your reference points and perspectives, and set you on a path of hope!

As a marriage and family therapist since 1986, I continue to work for increasing health and well being of my clients and help them find their strengths and resiliency. I am trained in EMDR Therapy and complex trauma. I also work with couples and relationship issues, focusing on family patterns and helping my clients discover how the past can contaminate the present. I work to maintain the acceptance of meeting my clients where they are, honestly and non-judgmentally. Whether you come to me as an individual or a couple, I can help you better understand yourself in relationship to yourself and others.

Joan Dewey (she/her), brings 25 + years of practice experience having worked for many years in rural/remote integrated team settings with indigenous groups. She is licensed to provide psychotherapy (telehealth) in Alaska and Arizona. Ms. Dewey moved from Alaska in 2019, now lives in Northern Arizona, and continues to work with individuals of all ages, life circumstances, including those with histories of traumatic events, grief/loss, depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, addictions, and life transitions. She is BIPOC and LGBTQ+ affirming.

As a therapist I engage clients in cultivating their self compassionate voice and finding their strengths. I will also use outdoor therapy and draw on the healing power of nature when clients are interested. I often use tools such as mindfulness, motivational interviewing and somatic awareness to support clients in building resilience and coping mechanisms. I use a culturally humble, trauma informed, harm-reduction, somatic minded approach. I offer support in person or outside with walk and talk sessions or remote sessions with a secure telehealth platform.

My main specialty is adoption and attachment. I was adopted and have reunited with my birth parents and have worked with hundreds of adoptees as well as adoptive parents seeking to understand their child/young adult. I work best with those who are seeking insights into themselves. I can help guide you if you are looking to do some self exploration and find out why you keep repeating the same patterns. I have worked extensively with teens, young adults, and with parents. I have treated many families who are struggling with navigating issues related to family dynamics.

I have extensive experience with trauma and am trained in EMDR therapy. I am specialized in all developmental stages from birth to geriatrics. My patients find that I am an active listener, compassionate, warm and understanding as well as knowledgeable, collaborative, solution focused, and able to suggest creative and practical solutions

As a practitioner, I think of myself as a generalist and enjoy working with a wide variety of people across the lifespan with different challenges and symptoms.

I work with a very diverse population. My clients are interested in managing mental and behavioral health issues, striving for personal growth, and desiring to release everything from the past that no longer serves their highest interests. While many of my clients are diving deeply into long term issues, I also work with those who may simply need a thinking partner, a coach, or someone who can support them in their quest for wholehearted living.

I am available for Teletherapy sessions throughout the state of Arizona. I use a variety of techniques & experiential methods to help my clients change their self-defeating patterns and access & process underlying emotional blocks. I tailor my work to meet individual needs drawing primarily from the theories of Mindfullness-Based Cognitive Therapy as well as Gestalt, Adlerian & Jungian Therapy, My work is guided by the premise that each individual holds within them the capacity to understand and heal themselves. My role is to facilitate a connection to this capacity which allows my clients to feel more fulfilled & connected in life.

Our providers have extensive experience in counseling children, adolescents and families. Dr. Della Lusk's practice focuses primarily on individual psychotherapy, but she also offers group, couples and family counseling.
