I specialize in working with adults struggling with co-occurring disorders such as substance use and mental health concerns.
Life can be challenging and inevitably ends up throwing us curve balls we don't expect or see coming. Because of life's intricacies, sometimes we need a space to come and sort them all out. It is my goal to provide that warm and open space for you. The space to come talk about and process the difficulties you are experiencing and feel heard in doing so. I would love to work alongside of you and collaborate in finding your strengths, learning new coping skills, and moving towards healing and a more fulfilled life.

Life offers us all challenges, and sometimes those challenges may seem unbearable or especially unique. Some of us experience difficulties from the time we are little children- trauma, abuse, neglect. We each have unique abilities and strengths. Sometimes, we have trouble accessing our strengths, but you have gifts in your being that are your gifts and strengths alone. My goal in working with you is to act as a catalyst -to encourage you to find your talents, abilities, and strengths that will serve you in coping with whatever difficulty life has given you.

Sometimes in life, our ability to cope is no longer sufficient to get us through challenges or even day-to-day. This can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and at times, out of control. We might notice ourselves experiencing struggles with self-care, sleep, relationships, self-esteem, health, and sometimes, turning to alcohol or drugs to feel better. Therapy can help us to regain control in our lives, address past wounds, develop healthier coping skills, build resilience and heal our bodies and minds.

Just a few years ago I was caught up in a cycle of self-doubt, shame, and failure. I was early on in adulthood and already I felt completely worn out; convinced my life would end in ruins. Eventually I was able to seek counseling, and this became a major factor in helping me find a new sense of hope and freedom. I became a counselor out of a desire to share this gift with others. I seek to create a safe space where my clients can find new hope in their journey. When you walk into my office, I want you to know that you are welcome here; you belong, and you matter.

I specialize in empowering individuals and couples with tangible tools for transformation. If you have been feeling stuck in how to improve your mood, relationships, performance, or health, but nothing you are trying is really working - I can help. My approach is rooted in the science that unlocking growth, connection, creativity, and opportunities hinges on our brain's ability to access a sense of safety in a world that has desensitized us to our own stress response. Most of us know what we want our lives to look like, but struggle to make it our reality. Call me if you feel stuck. More info on website.

Do you ever feel like your emotions are imbalanced, and you can't put your finger on why or how to manage them? Sometimes, when our feelings are unpredictable, it can lead to added stress, panic attacks, and personal reactions that may catch us off guard. Trauma, anxiety, and significant life changes, like a move or new job, can affect the way we respond in sensitive circumstances. You may want to discover the why, or you may just want to figure out a solution to regulate the turbulence and navigate the uncertainty.

I work best with those who think outside the box. These are clients who would rather live authentically than fit into the societal mold, whether this pertains to one's career, relationship(s), sexuality or gender. Our societal norms aren't just unhelpful in certain situations; they can be downright harmful. Trying to adhere to monogamy is going to make a polyamorous person miserable, and trying to conform to neurotypical social cues can be terribly disheartening for someone with autism. And some norms, like how we're taught to perform masculinity, can be damaging for everyone, no matter our identity.

Finding an affirming therapist can be a difficult & complex process. For many of us, living as our authentic selves can be challenging. Sometimes there are multiple barriers & difficult decisions ahead. You don’t have to navigate it alone. Together we’ll create a supportive/collaborative space needed to move through any relational challenges, and/or to process difficult experiences. Many clients work with me because they prefer working with a therapist who has first-hand knowledge of trans/queer identities & others work with me because of my 15+ years of experience working systemically with individuals, couples, and families.

As a young woman who felt very intimidated (actually, terrified) to make that first call to find a therapist in her early twenties - I get where your headspace may be right now. I understand how complex female mental health is (hello, hormones!) and how scary it is to come face to face with the parts of yourself that have been ignored or feel too stuck to change. I am here to tell you what nobody told me as a young woman, though...that on the other side of this fear is the lighter, more joyful and fulfilled version of yourself that was hidden out of sight. And I am confident that our work together will help you reconnect to her.

Trauma & loss can take all different forms and sit in our body & mind in a variety of uncomfortable ways. In counseling survivors of sex trafficking, I have encountered very difficult stories & complex trauma. The desire to find freedom from the symptoms and the past is within reach. After working overseas, I also can understand how hard transitions, grief, & feeling out of place is like. Your goals are the priority in finding your foundation & strength. I take a trauma-informed & holistic approach. This means incorporating the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of you while understanding the impact of the past.

I am working towards my clinical licensure in Colorado as a resident clinician with Centus Counseling. I am passionate about serving traditionally underserved individuals and communities of all ages, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community. I work with a trauma-informed lens that is person-centered, strengths-based, and solution-focused. I offer a nonjudgmental, safe space for collaboration together to help individuals find their authentic self. I recognize that the process towards self-empowerment is not easy, and that small steps can lead to large changes that help one move from survival mode to thriving.

You DON'T have to feel worse BEFORE feeling better! Most clients see me two to five times, and leave our first session saying, "Wow! I feel better already." You aren't choosing to think, act or feel in the way that's brought you here, so how could you possibly choose NOT to? Psychological problems are caused and maintained by forces that, until we expose them, have been beyond your control. It's normal to feel angry, anxious, traumatized. But if these feelings are keeping you back, then you are ready! I want your mind to work optimally! "Optimally" means free of preoccupations that have been keeping you down.

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
